Thanks, all, for your kind words last week. I have happier news--last night I adopted Judy, a 9-year-old cocker who was found as a stray in Baltimore. She's a very sweet dog, housetrained and friendly. Unfortunately Bailey has been a bratty big brother, ignoring her at best and attempting to fight at worst (only once, thankfully). I'm hoping he'll come around when he realizes she's not leaving.

Any suggestions for a new name? While it's a fine name for a woman, Judy doesn't seem like a name for a dog. I don't think she knows her name (and is a bit hard of hearing anyway), but I thought I'd try to keep the ooo and eee sounds. So far I've thought of Rudy and Ruby and Julie, but none of these have grabbed me yet.
