That's a really cute story... I wish I had a friendly LBS where they'd be nice to me like that! Funny to think that when you went out for the road test they were probably all standing around saying things like, "WOW! Did you see her just whaling on that trainer? Not bad for a woman, huh?"

They're very nice, and I'm a talker, so I felt like I wanted to give them a little thank-you gesture. I didn't eat any, for the record!

They candidly showed me the pricing sheets of MSRP vs. what they can charge and so forth. I want to support them, so we were talking also about what they might be able to do for me if I test bikes in the big city where I might find an 07 sale bike, but come home and have the LBS order something.

Chances are good I will need some kind of modification, because I have mannish proportions (no long legs here) but tiny hands...so maybe R700 shifters, or different bar/stem. And, depending on the bike, maybe something on wheels. I don't know.

Anyhow, I think they know I am trying to support them. We're a small community, and I'm a business owner, too, so I try hard (although judiciously) to support local businesses if I can.

Anyhow, they deserve pie because I tend to talk their ears off.

Are you trying out new bikes? You sound like you have my build. Short legs here too, and small hands. Like I said in the thread about component groups, I went with all 105 (2007) and R700 shifters (short reach with included shims) and a compact crankset. The bike itself is not a WSD, just a small unisex bike with a sloping top tube that enables me to stand over it. Traditional geometry was not going to work for me no way. Had to be men's geometry with a sloping top tube... nothing else would fit.

I haven't test ridden yet. But, I just did get this fit, and we decided on some probable frame sizes in a variety of bike models that would likely get me close to test riding the right frame sizes. I don't know how really close I am to a purchase. Probably not until fall, at least.

But, I have to travel to test bikes. And, for instance, one of the biggest shops in the metro area I would go to does not stock a size 49 Tarmac, one of the bikes I want to test. So, the testing process could take awhile.

Sounds like we might have the same challenges with fit.

I bring my LBS guys beer. It's amazing how quickly they all learned my name, and my bikes, and remember the friends I bring in to try bikes. (they still ask about you, Kit!)

I like the pie and milk idea. Probably better for them....

Well, I don't know these guys socially, so I don't know if they are alcohol drinkers or not...I figure, an unexpected piece of pie with some ice cold 1% milk...I know I would like to get that!
