    The funny thing is, I went to the track and did about 1 mile before the highschool track team came out to warm-up and suddenly my pace picked up from dead flat jog to dead flat semi spirited jog, for the last .3. Funny how weird we tend to be about how we appear to others.

    I've done two runs this week - one 3 mile run with hills on Tuesday at that perfect time in the morning just before the sun comes up with the perfect temp, 50 degrees. Thursday, that morning temp had dropped to 22 degrees so I hit the dreadmill for another 3 miles, this time with 1min intervals. Hope to get in one more run this weekend.

    Well, I was out for try number two this morning. I went outside today. At the trailhead where we park to run there is a small retention pond with a nice flat trail around. It is about 1/3 of a mile around. So we went this morning. I did a 5 min warm-up and then 2 min jog two min walk. I eventually cut the walk down a bit. I did that for 21 mins and then walked 5 more.

    DH went out on the trails and did 4 while I was doing my thing. Came home and did my PT exercises and now I am icing, having coffee from Trader Joe's and noodling on TE!

    Oh and no pain while running. Sore muscles, but no pain.

    RnRG, you're ahead of me. I didn't think is was possible to not have pain while running!! Seriously, I hope it continues to go smoothly. Resist the urge to go harder than you should...I know the type.

    I did something today I never, ever thought I would do. I ran 13 miles on the dreadmill. Yes. I did.

    I started out on the trail but the wind was gusting so strong I couldn't stand upright. Then I looked out over the lake and saw a thing coming, a thing that the radar did not show and for which I was only kind of prepared. So I bailed after about 4 miles thinking I would put on the road shoes and go run around the cemetery for a couple of hours. But then it started to snain (that's snow + rain) and thunder snow and, uncharacteristically, I decided to not go out into it. So I went to the gym.

    I was in good company. Lots of other folks there on the dread for a couple of hours. I watched one entire hockey game (the dreads overlook an ice sheet) and rocked out to the iPod. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But I wouldn't have wanted to do any more.

    25k in 2 weeks. I think I'll be OK for it. I don't think I'll be ready for the 50k in April, though. Not enough miles under me at this point (I keep gravitating toward my skis...). Not sure what's after the 25k.

    Thanks Wahine -- I'm really enjoying running now! It's funny because I never thought I could run. I remember dying trying to do one 1/4 mile lap around a track back in high school. And here I am after fracturing my pelvis in 2005 running > 2 miles for the first time in my life. I think going on Advair is probably the biggest difference in my success this time around, and the fact that I'd already built fitness from cycling, so I wasn't starting from ground zero. And the older I get, the more stubborn/determined I get too!

    The distances you do, and the frequency, continue to astound me -- you are such an inspiration!

    An even 10K for me today, longest run ever. I'd blown off my run on Thursday and didn't make it up yesterday, so I wasn't sure whether I should do a long run today (what I had scheduled for Thursday) or a 3 on/3 off (my usual weekend run). It was hard enough for me to drag myself out at all, let alone do a hard effort, so long run it was. I guess I'm still recovering, because as slow as I went, my HR was through the roof (average HR on the downwind return leg was 170), and it climbed steadily through the run, which suggests to me that I was over my LT from the very beginning, is that right?

    Anyway it felt decent, and I'm really really hoping that the last of the infection has cleared out of my ears. Please, please, please.

    Today's theme on the beach: crowded! Low tide and a beautiful Sunday. Football, frisbee, bocce, sunbathing, radios, a handful of other runners. Even though Bike Week is very much in evidence around here, not a single motorcycle on the beach (even on a normal day there's usually one or two).

    Now off to the Speedway to watch some races!

    There were so many people out running this morning it was almost a problem. A real highway at rush hour out there. Anyway, I headed out for a 10K run - my current version of a long run - planning to do hill reps towards the end on the way home. I wanted to do them when I would be a little tired, but not extremely tired so I ran the first 9K at not too hard a pace. When I hit the final hill home, I took a side street where I have a 250 m 8% incline measured (I found out that it's actually 235 but whatever), and did five reps. My first was 1:24 and I brought that down by a few seconds every time I repeated until I finished in 59s. It hurt badly but I really was all smiles!!!

    I walked back down and picked up the last km of my run where I had left it. I felt much less tired AFTER the hill reps than BEFORE. That must be endorphines.

    What will tomorrow be?

    Did a 5 mile trail run today. Probably pushed it a bit harder than I should have as my heart rate stayed high through most of it, and I had to drop back to a walk several times just to get my HR down < 170, but I did it, and at times it felt really good. The hills are still VERY hard going, but I can run a lot farther than I used to be able to, so I'm happy.

    I ran 3.5 on Friday night to complete my goal of 100 miles in 8 weeks! Yeah, and even 3 days ahead of schedule!

    I'm out of order, I know! This was for yesterday.

    I ran a total of 6 miles, all on the track. I did 8 x .25 repeats (with rest in between) and 4 x .50. It's going ok though I think my legs were screaming at me while it was happening.

    I was 26.5 for the week. I'm at 155.5 for the year
