divingbiker,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've had to make this same wrenching decision twice, and it is one of the most difficult things we humans have to do. But ultimately, I do believe it is the most kind and ethical thing to do for our furry friends, and I know your Remy would thank you if she could.
Thinking of you,
Emily

Thanks, all, for your kind words last week. I have happier news--last night I adopted Judy, a 9-year-old cocker who was found as a stray in Baltimore. She's a very sweet dog, housetrained and friendly. Unfortunately Bailey has been a bratty big brother, ignoring her at best and attempting to fight at worst (only once, thankfully). I'm hoping he'll come around when he realizes she's not leaving.
Any suggestions for a new name? While it's a fine name for a woman, Judy doesn't seem like a name for a dog. I don't think she knows her name (and is a bit hard of hearing anyway), but I thought I'd try to keep the ooo and eee sounds. So far I've thought of Rudy and Ruby and Julie, but none of these have grabbed me yet.
Here she is:

WOW! So wonderful of you to adopt an older dog. You've done a beautiful thing... I'm sure Bailey will come around. Make sure to give him lots of love during the transition. I'm terrible with names, so I'll leave that for others to comment on!![]()

My grandmother always named her dogs Lady or King.
How about Lucy? Like, I Love Lucy.
My newest dog came with that name (she'd only had it one day), and I kept it. I fits her, because her last name is Clueless (but only when she acts that way). Part Golden Retriever and part some kind of wiry terrier, she's quite a mix. Has some of the best traits of a golden (obedience), and the WORST traits of a terrier (digging!).

Just checking back in with this thread.
I'm so so so sorry for your loss, diving biker--that's never an easy choice to make, but in your heart, you know it was the right one for your Remy.
And now you're giving a happy "senior-hood" to another dog--what a great boon to dogdom! BTW, Tuckervill's idea for a name--Lucy--seems like a cool choice. Congrats to you and Judy/Lucy/Lady/? for finding each other.
