Wow, keep it up girl. That truly is amazing. There aren't a lot of things that I tell myself I'll never do in this lifetime ... but a true IM is definitely one of them! Keep up the hard work. It will pay off in the end.

KSH - you are soooooooo on the way. Honestly, you're training as much if not more than I was at this point in my program last year. You're going to do great. And I totally understand about "the groove". I love the focus and intensity of training for something like this. I really miss it when I'm not in a structured program.

Good luck and keep it coming.

WOW! Thanks. That makes me feel that what I'm doing is the right thing and makes me trust in my coach just that much more.

Yea, our goal is to get me FAST and strong on the bike... because my run will be so slow. Although, I think I'm looking at around a 14 hour IM right now. Not that fast... but not that slow either!

OMGosh...I think I took that long just to do my climbing century last August! LOL But, I am getting some coaching this year...also trying to get faster on the bike, so I will enjoy seeing stuff about your bike-speed workouts. Feel free to post more frequently!

ETA: You know, regarding the supportive posts...I am honestly and truly amazed at folks who do IMs. I lurk around and sometimes post in the Tri section, because reading what you guys do always wakes up a little part of me that really wants to do it, too. But, I am pretty well always afraid of everything, so I have to build up to believing and hoping that maybe I could do one someday. This year is still dedicated to the bike. But, if I can do my big ride in August, it will be time to consider a walk/run & swimming program starting next September. All of you who do this level of endurance training really impress and motivate me. And, I really enjoy reading the details of your training. Keep it coming!

Well, the key there is that you had a century that was CLIMBING! That's really hard.

As for gaining speed on the bike, he really just has me doing interval work to get me there. Along with riding long distances at a steady speed.

I haven't really seen the speed yet, but I have a few more months to go!

I feel the exact same way. I love coming here and reading what the amazing triathletes are accomplishing. You are all incredibly inspiring. I'm going to start training in the 3 disciplines this summer. And maybe I'm delusional but I like to daydream about doing an IM. Maybe a couple of years down the line I'll be ready for that. But for now I'm in awe of the real triathletes.

Go KSH Go! I'm rooting for ya!

    Hey, KSH, you'll enjoy this.

I was just emailing back and forth with my coach about the need to step up my long climbing rides on the weekends. The tough part is that our extra snow this year has left the roads still REALLY gravelly.

It looks like I will be having to do some very long trainer rides, too...and not really the kind that change up a lot...more like the 3 hour mountain climbs that I really need to be starting this month.

My coach is worried (a valid worry!) that I will go nuts with too much of this. I told her:

"If KSH on TE can do 4.5 hours on her trainer for her IM schedule, I guess I can try a couple long trainer rides!!!"

HA! Yea... that's right girl... YOU CAN DO IT! Although, climbing for that long does sound HARD. Mine is just a straight ride with 90+ cadence.

I do have to say, it's complete mental training. You keep going, even when you don't want to. Mentally, you dig deep and tell yourself you can do it.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
