Divingbiker,
So sorry for your pain and loss. It is so hard to let go and the guilt we put on ourselves is sometimes easier to deal with than the grief of the loss of our family member. Do whatever you need to to care for yourself. We are here for you. Sending you positive energy and warm hugs, Dawn

oh divingbiker, add me to the list of those that feel your pain. i had to put my chelsea girl down in aug of 06 and i still grieve. now my bailey boy won't be far behind. it is so hard to do but it really is the act of a loving person. i'd say my chelsea will meet remy, but chelsea hated everyone but me, so i'm sure she isn't socializing much in the great animal beyond.![]()
Divingbiker I'm sorry for what you had to go through. Hugs

Thanks, everyone. It's hard to have that kind of power over another living being's life. I took a nap and was feeling better, and then the crematory called to work out some details and I lost it again. Maybe a cup of chai will work its usual magic...thanks again.
(((DB))) You did the right thing. Humans can decide that for themselves. Stop eating and drinking and, with an advanced cancer on board and pain relievers doing their thing, it doesn't take long. I'm pretty sure that's what my Dad decided. He'd talked about it a few weeks earlier. Pets don't get to make that decision. And they can't even talk it over with us. We just have to observe and then make the decision on their behalf. From what you've told us, we know you were observing carefully. Remy knew it too. And the vet knew it, and knew how to make it a gentle and caring end to a long, well-loved life.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
BStGirl: Those cats of yours are in cahoots with Ruby the naughty doll! But is she teaching them tricks, or they her?

DB, I know how you're feeling, and you have my sincere condolences.I still miss my wonder kitty something awful -- and it's been over 3 years since I had to put her to sleep. But the hurt will lessen over time, and you will always have your wonderful memories to bring a smile to your face. Best wishes to you.

It's the hardest thing to do, but so often the right thing to do is the hardest.
