More is better....

Quill stems are the ones you can raise and lower at will. (the old fashioned one piece critters) Excellent for the commuter who wants to fuss with bar height without having to buy a new stem for every new position, or worry about steerer tube length and spacers.

My Waterford (1997) and my Giant (1980-something) have quill stems, my newer bikes (Kona Smoke 2007 and Surly CC 2007) have the new-fangled threadless thingies. I had to buy a new stem to adjust the position of my Surly's bars at all, which just chapped my hide somethin' fierce, let me tell ya!

Some of the quill stems are sculptural beauties, too. Like the Nitto Technomic and the Nitto lugged. Peter White has a nice selection of hard-to-find quill stems on this page: http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/stems.asp

Yes, one simply *must* have a wicker basket on the handle bars when passing racer-boys on the bike trail, with a merrily jingling bike bell and singing out "on your left!"

Skirt, sandals, and blowing kisses optional.

(I have noticed that the really fast riders I can't get past, or even catch up to, are ususally the "Freds" on rather battered older bikes. I bow to their bike-iness)

I've seen a few bungee nets for handlebar baskets, so commuters or utility riders don't have to worry about their stuff bouncing out.

all of them seem VERY reasonably priced if you ask me...

course I vote for the coda...as i LOVE my aurora...and I rode a coda (for size check) and found it good...

my specialized globe was 700. and its aluminum

(before I realized I even had a choice and what that choice meant) but it DOES have 8 internal gears...lovely sealed hub...extraordinary shifting ease....

and you're being far more reasonable than I...who, STILL stuck in virus ville, is unable to ride and so is "shopping" for my custom handbuilt...luna? sweetpea? co-motion??
