I got up at 5:30 AM and went to swimming this morning.

We had some basic speed sets... and then we did some mass start race simulation.

The pool that we swim at has a shallow end that is like a beach. The concrete starts very shallow and gradually gets deeper.

So we lined up... and ran into the water and then started swimming when it got too deep. It was fun! I loved pushing people out of my way.

Although, one big guy was not moving. By accident I put my hand flat on his butt and shoved. Ooopsss! I bet he felt all molested after that.

Otherwise, when we turned around and swam down the lane... I was behind a couple of guys and I just played with their feet the whole time. What fun!

I like getting aggressive in the water.

I got up and was in the pool by 5:30 this morning! It was nice, until the older water aerobic crowd pushed me out of my lane.

    250 m warm up
    500 m free
    500 m free w/fins
I only got in a 150 m cool down before they kicked me out.

It felt good to get up and accomplish something that early. Good swim, but my brain wanted to go faster than the rest of me did.

    swim

I normally swim at 5:45 am with our group. That means waking up at 4:15am as it takes me 1/2hr to drive to the pool.

I can't run in the mornings as my stomach does wacky things ..I won't be running for a while..

Great session this morning . I'll try and repeat some of what we did today tomorrow on my own.

Wow! to be at the pool at 545- that is impressive! Actually maybe if it was just me I could get there- but DH is NOT a morning person so I start the waking process at 5.30 and we have yet to get to the pool by 700 usually manage by 7.15-7.30- oh well neither of us have to be at work early so we can still get our workout in.

I went swimmin' this afternoon. I didn't think I was going slow, in fact, I thought I was swimming more steadily than normal, but I ran out of time and didn't finish my swim plan. I wonder if I lost count and did more lengths than I thought - I do that a lot. How do you keep track of how many lengths you've done? I must be so distractible...

    Alphabet soup.

I swim either one or two lanes with the letter "a" rotating in my mind. Then b... and I calculate ahead of time where I will end up.
It's easier to keep track of letters than numbers. Like this, I can remember my lanes even in a 25m pool.

At every 50, after my flip turn, I call out under water, "50"... "100"... "150".

For some reason, saying it outloud, even if underwater... helps me keep track.

I also have a workout written on an index card in a plastic baggie propped up on my water bottle. So, I might be doing 3,000 yards... but I have sets. For example, 4x100. So, that is 400 total. But I don't have to remember ALL the yardage I have done. It's written down. I just have to know where I'm at in the workout.

Now, when I have had to do like... 10x100... I put pennies out on a kickboard and I move a penny each time a 100 is done.

But for long sets... like a straight 1,000.. I just call out underwater.
