I need to start working on defined workouts. Today I was in a small pool (20') and the dogpaddlers were wayward. I was tired anyway so I just warmed up, did some open water laps (no lane dividers so I just swam in circles), then worked on bilateral breathing. For a while, also, I practiced just breathing on my weak side.

It isn't as good as a structured workout but it was all I had the energy for And, it was 40 minutes of practice.

We had another 1K time trial last night.

I moaned because the coach had said we did not have to do it if we did the one in January but then obliged.

    I did 18:40.
    The first 100 in 1:43
    500 in 9:30 -

    That means
    a) a negative split (if one can talk about this in swimming)
    b) I took off 2:10 from the January TT
    c) all of that on the second 500!

I feel much stronger on the catch these days, have improved the push-through phase although I am sure that could be improved.

3100 m this morning. I nearly didn't go. There was a trange beeping sound in my house last night that I have yet to diagnose. I would wake up to the beep, then it would stop so I couldn't figure out what it was. I'd fall asleep and wake up again to the beep... Anyway, we're trying to up the speed and we're doing 200's, 100's and 50's. I was holding 44 to 45 on my 50s. I have a goal of breaking a 1:30 100. I think I'm getting close.

If you have CO detector check that. We changed out all the smoke alarms one day and we still heard a beep. It was the CO detector. Who knew.

Good job for getting up and going!

Thanks Chick. I think that all of our smoke detectors etc are hard wired into the house. But I'm wondering if they still have batteries for back up that might be the problem?

    breakthru at the pool

We did 3000m today, great breakthru for DH as I had made a comment that the guy in the next lane sounded like a whale when he breathed- I think he sings or ??? actually I don't know what he does but I can hear him a lane over- anyway DH then realized that he gets concentrating on a skill and starts holding his breath so by the time he gets to the end he can't catch his breath at all!
I was very very happy for DH and Mr whale who inadvertantly helped DH
Also an older woman joined us- she said we were setting a good pace- by older I mean late 70's - guilted DH into finishing all the sets instead of slacking- was good allround day at the pool
