Question inseam question from a newbie

So glad to have found this forum. Just started cycling 'cause my fiance is an avid cyclist. I had a pair of cycling shorts (purchased for when I used to ride a stationary bike) but nothing else; my fiance helped me pick out a starter bike (I'm very happy with it), and he bought my accessories (jersey, gloves, computer, pack, etc.) as a gift. I've been on my first few rides and am ready to add to my cycling wardrobe. I'm willing to take a chance on a jersey, but I want to make darn sure the shorts are right. The pair I have seem comfortable in terms of length, so I think I'll get another pair with the same inseam. However, I don't know how to measure the inseam--from the middle of the crotch or from the edge of the padding? Can anyone help? S'pose I can call TE tomorrow, but would love to get my order placed tonight if possible.
