As I recall, a pound of muscle takes less space (area) than a pound of blubber. So a 150 pound fit muscular person will appear smaller than a 150 pound lazy bumm.

    Like I tell my clients:

Muscle is like gold, fat is like feathers. Which would you rather have?

Well this is all true (but it wasn't really the point of the article)

Nope! You're right. But the point of his article is nothing that hasn't been in all forms of media for at least the last couple of years. And, for those of us that are in the fitness business full-time....this is what we've been preaching to our clients (and potential clients) for the last decade, or two or three.

Sorry to be so snotty...maybe it's hormones or that sometimes it's annoying to see that if a man says it...it must be true.

"They’re hoping their next study will help identify the novel proteins, known as myokines, that the type II muscle fibers are using to communicate with other tissues involved in metabolism. These myokines could one day become therapeutic targets for the treatment of metabolic diseases. In this next round of experiments, the researchers will also manipulate the Akt1 gene in older mice, to study the impact it may have on the normal metabolic effects of aging — specifically loss of type II muscle fiber and increased body fat and metabolic dysfunction — that occur in mice as well as humans."

It was a gene study, I doubt Arnold was in on it.
