    MRI results

I got the results back from the MRI that I had on Friday. My appointment with the doc is not until next Monday, but I wanted to see the report.

No meniscal tear all ligaments intact. Chondromalacia of the patellofemural joint. Oh and a tiny bit of Arthur-itis thrown in just to make me feel REALLY OLD!

I also spoke to the gent that will be my PT. He is a great guy, a triathlete from my pool. Called me at home to chat. He said it sounds like patellofemural syndrome. Common in athletes and treatable. Probably due to an imbalance between my quads and hammies and a tight ITB.

I have to get everything read by the doc, but I am feeling hopeful.

So keep your fingers crossed for a diagnosis of PFS over tendonosis...

Either way one week from now I will be in rehab, progressing toward recovery.

(although, the rest of the walking wounded, are scaring me with the S & M stories of torture at PT)

    yo

glad you recieved your results & have some idea of what's up.

    Remember..DON"T PANIC...

Physio is not as bad as the ohers say. Just remember to do all the exercises your physio gives you every day! They're often easier in the pool (ok, my one legged squats are...)

    Remember...Don't PANIC.

BTW..is there a reputable pilates studio near you? The reason I ask is, i don't do a class but if you can do semi private sessions that might be an idea. The studio I go to created a program of exercises for the muscles involved for cycling & swimming. It kept me injury free.. Since being on the injured list, they have me doing different exercises.

    Remember..DON"T PANIC

    Good news so far!

It's usually only the ROM exercises that are really painful. If you've got full range of motion, you don't have to worry about that. To me, myofascial release and deep tissue massage is a "good" hurt. I always tell the LMTs to just wale on me, it's the only thing my muscles listen to

    Thumbs up

Good news. All sounds treatable so far and explains why it's not getting better as quickly as you'd like.

So keep on with the foam roll and IT band stretches!! Those are a big part of trying to correct the typical muscle imbalances.

I'm glad you found a PT that will understand you.

    Yoda,
He is a nice guy. He and his wife are both triathletes. He was trying to qualify for Hawaii last year. And yep, I think he gets me...
I told him today on the phone. I have put aside my goals for this season and I am focused on the long haul. I am going to do this rehab once, and then maintain it. So maybe later this summer or next fall I will be able to race. If not, look out next season!

I did PT for patellofemural syndrome back in the fall. It help tremendously. I'm now biking and running without pain. I continue to do stretching before and after almost all of my workouts, including a foam roller for the IT band, and I think this makes a huge difference in keeping me pain free.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...
