    February 5 Rides

Well, I'll start today, since I had a strange ride.

Did a conditioning class at the gym, then took the road bike out to do what was supposed to be some normal hill repeats.

I was supposed to find a 1/2 mile hill of about 8%. But, with the snow this year, all our roads are super sandy, and the longer hills are still too yucky or busy for me right now.

I targeted a shorter hill that I thought was maybe 8-12%. Turns out it was 12-18%. So, I go up for my first go, and realize as I start to come down that I have a problem with my brakes (d@mned small hands & double shims!).

Long story short: I did the repeats riding up, and then in my mountain bike shoes, walking my bike back down. Lots of recovery time. But, after the conditioning class at the gym, plus the uphill rides, walking down was interesting on the quads.

Did I mention that of course it was raining?

At the very end, loading my bike, I dropped my cyclometer, so I can't even report elevation gain. Grrrrr.

24.5 miles today. I did 45 miles yesterday and had a great ride. I thought I'd go for distance again today, but decided to listen to my body when it didn't feel (tired, legs aching) right. I turned around about 7 miles in, added a 10 mile loop and ended up with just over 24.

I have a full week of training, including hill repeats tomorrow night, a few more 20 milers and then a century on Saturday before I ease back and chill out before my first double century on the 16th.

Nice job Liz, sticking with your workout plan.

And Brandy you'll be just fine for Butterfield.

I'm contemplating my options for the afternoon. Right now they include holding a kitten who wants to snuggle.

I voted and rode to work.
Now it's thunderstorming and it's time to go home. Actually, first time in years it's been bad at commute time... and we're supposed to get poured on 'til the ark floats away so it's not a case of "get dressed slowly." Ready to get wetty!

Thanks...the bike is in the shop as we speak, getting some adjustments. My LBS just put in automatic sliding doors, so no more juggling a door and a bike!

Started the day off with 8 miles on my trainer. Our weekly faculty meeting ended early and it was warm outside so I dashed home changed clothes and grabbed my new bike. I rode a quick 14 miles and arrived home just in time to load the other bike and trainer in my car. I drove into Louisville and joined the club for the weekly trainer tour. I logged 13.5 miles there. My legs are tired, I'm tired but it is a good fatigue so I'm not complaining. What a day!
