Wow! Thank you all for posting! You humour and candid comments are great! I think I'm glad this thread did not exist when I was sick last year - I would have hated to have ovewhined and brought the party down!

I'm sending loads of happy butterflies to you all for all of your injuries to heal well and for you to do all the right things (i.e. not to much, and be patient), while the healing is happening.

And extra butterflies for the poor girl in the accident. It sound horrific!

    Hugs and butterflies,
    ~T~
    The butterflies are within you.

Tomorrow will be ONE YEAR since I was in the car accident that tore up my SI joint. I've turned into a little bit of a gym rat-- swimming and machines - sometimes the treadmill but I usually pay for that the next day. I had two injections into the joint that helped. I have been back on my mountain bike a few times recently. I always hurt later, but my back hurts most the time anyway, so I would rather ride and hurt than not ride and hurt a little less.

On another note my husband who got hit and run December 5 and ended up in the hospital for five days with a broken rib and collapsed lung is 100% better and back to commuting every day.

That's fantastic news about your husband! I'm sorry you haven't been so lucky. I'd be interested to hear more about your SI joint injections as I also have lingering SI joint pain (not intense, but annoying) from my cycling accident in April '05. My pain is mostly just when I'm riding, not so much afterwards, and is at the top of my butt in back, on the right side. Are the injections x-ray guided? I read some about them online awhile back, and they sounded kinda involved and possibly painful (are you anesthesized at all?), so I haven't followed up with them but think I might need to at some point. How long do the results last?

Thanks for the info -- and I hope you'll continue to recover. One year is not that long in the grand scheme of things, though I know it seems it. My orthopod told me that I'd continue to heal for two years after my surgery to repair my pelvis. I'm past that now, but you may still have another year of improvement ahead of you! Fortunately, I'm able to ride, hike, and even run, but just not really long distances, and I worry about pain getting worse on back-to-back days, like if my DH and I were ever to do another bike tour.

Oh, some lady missed a stop sign and t-boned me in the drivers side door at about 35 or 40 mph.

Emily- the injections are xray guided and under anesthesia.($$$) I was having bad stabbing in the spot you are talking about and "Sciatica" type pain. The injections definitely reduced that. I still get a stab her and there. The second shot was in October and I did really well. But I seem to be getting more generalized back pain, probably because I am DOING more. Thanks for the encouragement. It is frustrating, but also I am crazy busy with school and work and kids I couldn't ride so much any way. (I keep saying to myself)

FBG - Were you getting steroid injections, prolotherapy injections or something else?

It can take a good 2 years to recover from stuff that big. Hang in there and you're doing the right thing by trying to get active again.

Thanks for the information! I have good health insurance through my employer, so the money aspect is not a biggie, more the time and pain factor (I was glad to hear that you got anesthesia as I am a pain weenie!) I'll make a decision once I see how the pain is after I start riding again in the spring, and once I see how much I am going to ride this year. I sure wish there were a permanent fix rather than just something that lasts a month or three, as I won't necessarily have excellent health insurance forever. Somehow I doubt Medicare will pay for these injections, once I get to that age...

    Unhappy PT - owie

Tony (PT) was channeling his inner medieval torturer today... my shoulder hurtz

I know I need stretching out, and he is careful. I do all my exercises and stretches. but, but ...
I WANT MY SHOULDER TO STOP HURTING AND HAVE FULL RANGE OF MOTION NOW!!!

and yes, they got another doctor's order and insurance authorization for the continuation... but next week is only two sessions, 'cause of Mardi Gras
    Throw me something, mister!
