Ok, so my doc recommended introducing fish oil into my diet since I don't eat much fish. I took my first dose this morning and have been burping up fishiness and feeling queasy all day.
Has anyone taken a fish oil supplement and had this? Did it go away? Do I need to persevere or just learn to eat salmon?

I purchase the Omega Fatty Acid 3-6-9 in capsule form. No bad after taste.

Northstar,
They make a caplet that is coated (i can't remember with what -ecentic??) and you don't have that wicked aftertaste or belching fish problem. It tastes like vanilla to me.
I am never down. I am either up or getting up.
Try taking them with food? I take capsules, and they don't bother me if I take them first thing in the morning with orange juice, then eat something easily digestible afterwards like a sandwich. If I forget and have to swallow them afterwards I think I have more chance of them "coming back to haunt me".
I used to take liquid cod liver oil, which tastes truly revolting, but I found out that drinking a little orange juice first, then swallowing a spoonful of oil, then a lot more orange juice, helped "cut" the taste. Coffee did NOT work, there's some fat in coffee and it increased the taste.

I also take them and have found that even with the enteric coated 3-6-9 caps I get fishy repeats if I take it right after I've eaten. I think maybe my digestive system is all riled up and processes them a before they get into the small intestine. So I definitely recommend taking them right before you eat a meal.
I don't eat much fish either after a food poisoning incident when I was a kid, so that's part of the reason I take them, too.
LPH - I'll have to try the OJ trick, sounds like it works pretty well.
Then there's vegetarian Udo's Choice 3-6-9, actually tastes pretty good even if you're not vegetarian. That's what my sister the acupuncture doctor (not vegetarian herself) recommends. Pour it on cereal (hot or cold) or blend it into smoothies.
You may want to also check this thread for more information.
I had that problem too, even with the enteric ones that aren't supposed to open until they hit your intestines. I was burping (and then the other end) nasty fish and it was horrible. I couldn't live with it. So, now I take flax seed capsules. Same omega-3's without the fish. If one bursts in my mouth when I have a hot drink, no bad taste. Check it out.

Nope, not the same. See post #15 here: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showt...highlight=fish
Try freezing your capsules and see if that helps with the burpies.
I just bought some of the Udo's Choice 3-6-9 today and am looking forward to trying it. I seem to have chronic tendinitis/inflammation problems every 6 months or so (usually in my neck/upper back and my achilles. Doctors cannot find anything wrong with me. I tried getting more protein and that didn't seem to work over the long haul (I started eating chicken after being a vegetarian for years). I know I am probably not getting my essential oils, so why not give it a try! Right now I have a third bout of achilles inflammation going on and I am hoping my home rehab program and nutrition will help it go away. I'll let you all know what I think of the Udo's after I use it for a while.![]()
I take my capsules at night just before bed. No burping of fishyness while I sleep and by morning I'm good to run around again. Taking them in the morning increased the risk of fishy burps. The other thing I found was, if I took too much of it the fishy burps got worse. I now only take one capsule (100mg cod liver oil) and I'm all good.
I also used to have to take spoonfuls of the liquid stuff as a kid. Horrible horrible stuff! But my dad still swears by it and has his spoonful every morning along with a spoonful of liquid multivitamin stuff.
I take "Carlson's Super Omega 3" softgels. I take one at night before I go to bed. No problem at all with fish burps and I sleep like a baby. I also take a multivitamin, calcium pill, flaxseed oil softgel, and soy tablet at the same time as I take the fish oil softgel.
I am feeling great these days, and I am convinced that these supplements are helping, along with a healthy diet and exercise.
Anyway, just my two cents.

P.S. My personal physician is a naturopath, and I take these under his supervision. I am on no other medications - just these supplements.
Hey uk - I'm guessing your dad is taking the classic Norwegian combo of tran+Sanasol? You might want to give him a heads up that he's getting a double dosage of the vitamins they add to tran, think it's A, D and E. My dr told me to avoid extra dosages of these, apparently one shouldn't take too much of them as the fatsoluble vitamins get "deposited" in the body.
(I have no idea what devastating effects it might have, though)

Hmmm, taking them at bedtime sounds like a good trick.
Thanks for the advice ladies!
