I have to admit the prairies have made it easy to start riding. I work in Chestermere and commuted by bike for 6 months in 2007. I couldn't ask for a flatter ride. When the wind cooperated it was the easiest thing in the world. I road to Irricanna one day and I think there was only one small coulee the whole ride. East of the city is just awesome for well paved roads with no traffic and no hills.
