    DH has an ipod I can inherit. So not to be too OT here but what type of headphones/ear things work the best for running? (Not total headphones, I know.) What is the best way to carry it? We just swapped out our computer so I need to download all the software again and learn how to use the ipod. I think this might definitely help though! Now I'll have to search for a thread on good running music.

    Interval day again today - my intervals were a bit quicker and my HR recovered MUCH faster than when I did the same workout last week. Could be any number of reasons, but I'm going to say it's because regular running is paying off We'll see what happens next week! 4.1 miles today.

    Ugh, after my 8 miler yesterday my legs felt like cement today and all I could manage was a sluggish 2 miles on the dreadmill.

    First off, 2 miles after an 8 miler the day before is substantial and your legs should feel like cement. You deserve it.

    I put in 5 miles at lunch. Short (1/4 mile intervals) in Z4. Not bad for not running in ages.

    I love my shuffle too.

    Oooh, Wahine, intervals straight off after "not running in ages," are you sore as h3ll? I would be!

    But partial hijack: how do you calculate your HR zones? I let my ForeRunner software do it. According to the gadget, Z2 starts right about where I start to breathe hard, which is 144, and that makes sense, but that means the rest of the zones on up to my max are very narrow (8-10 bpm). Can that be right?

    I was a weather weenie this morning (18 degrees F ) so I did 2.4 miles on the treadmill at the pool. I like the treadmill because it forces me to keep up my pace, but I hate the treadmill because it forces me to keep up my pace, and it's hot!
    I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

    Hey teigyr, I don't usually run with my ipod but sometimes I use it on the treadmill. I will usually just use the regular ipod earbuds but they do have a tendency to wiggle out so I bet it would work better with a headband to keep em in place. My mom swears by the Sennheiser brand (lots of people seem to like that brand for working out) behind the head model, but they are a bit more spendy than cheap earbuds. I got my brother the ear clips made by Philips to run with. I guess it depends on your preference? Some people don't like the ear clip things because they hurt.

    Another mile on the treadmill yesterday. My foot still feels good today. Maybe I'm beating the PF. I'm trying so hard not to push myself too soon, but it's so hard to do. It's funny because one of the things I emphasize with my patients is letting things heal and not trying to do stuff too soon. I'm my own worst patient!

    I ran 8 miles this morning! That's the longest distance I've done in a long, long time. I felt really good. Almost pushed for 9--but didn't want to over do it.

    iPods--I love mine for running. Can't wear the ear buds for the life of me. I have freakishly small ears and they won't fit. I like the traditional ear phones but with the band that goes more around the back of the head instead over top. And, I really like the ones with volume control on the wire--saves me from messing with the iPod when I'm running. I just clip mine onto my shorts or tights.

    10 slow, cold, wet, unpleasant miles. Did I mention slow? I think "shuffling" is the proper term. I don't know why I feel so crappy today. Oh well, at least I got the mileage in, that's the important thing (or at least that's what I'm telling myself).

    Ugly weather this morning (as most recent days, and most coming days I'm afraid) but pulled myself out for my long run. It was sort of a rest week and my shortest long run until my coming half-marathon, that is 15 km and change. In the forest, it was just beautiful, I forgot about my little mechanical complaints (sore ankles, sore feet...) and just ran. I feel much better now.

    Now on to Monster Month.
