    favorite women's health/fitness magazine?

    I would like to subscribe to a women's health/fitness magazine this year, but am not sure what the best one would be. Do you all have any favorites? Why do you like that one over others?

    Right now I get Health Magazine, which is nice, but I am finding it a bit gimmicky... like "loose 15 lbs fast, and never feel hungary!" and "Erase belly fat for good!"

    One's I am thinking about include Women's Health, Shape, Self.... any suggestions welcome!

    I get Shape, Fitness, and Self. To be honest, they suck after awhile. Same old stuff and silly almost teenage like articles. I am cancelling all of these subscriptions and getting Women's Health. DH gets Men's Health and I forever have my nose buried in his, so I picked up an issue of Women's Health and found it very interesting and informative. Beats the others by a mile.

    I like Women's Health (though I often think Men's Health is better written) and More magazine. "More" isn't a sports and fitness mag, but it's definitely NOT aimed at teenagers!

    It's always hard to find a good magazine! I currently subscribe to Her Sports and Womens Health.

    Her Sports has good training programs and informational articles, sometimes wish there was more content as some months are kind of slim.

    Womens Health was a complete turnoff at the bookstore (to many slogans on the front cover), but a friend of mine gave me the magazine to look at an article and I was hooked. Yes it has some fluff, but each month there have been some articles that have been different and informational. There's a little of everything in there, so I'm not bored quickly.

    I might add Runners to the pile, it has a good amount of health/nutrition information that isn't always only running related.

    I like Oxygen. It's like what Muscle & Fitness Hers used to be before they went all foofoo. Not much emphasis on cardio in either one, though, if that's what you're looking for.

    I really like Her Sports (and so does my sweet (male) partner).

    I am tired of Runner's World. There are good articles but about 75% of it (including the cover) is repeated from issue to issue and/or year to year. I'm a bit tired of Rodale's magazines (i.e. also Bicycling, which is horribly sexist, which thankfully Runner's is not as much) but I will probably keep our subscription to Runner's because of the good, well-researched articles...

    I'm a big fan of Women's Health. It's the only magazine I've ever subscribed to and I intend to keep it up. There are always great nutrition tips - as well as sample exercises for stretching, cardio, yoga, or weights. They also do a good job of incorporating stories/tips/photos of real-sized women (which speaks highly of the editors). And their 'fluff' stuff is actually informational and entertaining. I haven't tossed out a single issue.

    Yoga Journal. Like the entire thing (except all the ads, of course. LOL)

    I'm thinking about letting my subscription to Health lapse. The next time I go to the bookstore, I'll get a copy of Women's Health.

    I found a Border's in DC that carries Cycling Plus!! One of the MD ladies highly recommended it (was it Nicole) and after skimming through the two issues I bought (Xmas special & Dec), I agree. Much better than Bicycling, which I find a bit adolescent at times and aimed primarily at males.

    I'd like to second Oxygen. yes, it is a women's muscle magazine. Like competitive women body builders. but what I like about it is that it's not fluff. It really gives good exercises and explains exactly what to do.

    I think that a lot of these magazines are aimed at the person who is maybe thinking of "getting in shape" but hasn't necessarily gotten off the couch. I think that Oxygen is written more for the person who has already got the motivation and momentum to move and wants to refine what they are doing.

    I do take issue with all the supplement advertisements, but the actual articles really do focus on clean eating.

    I subscribe to Triathlete Magazine, which I really like a lot. I usually buy Oxygen and Her Sports and sometimes Muscle Fitness Hers off the newstand.

    I used to subscribe to Bicycling Magazine, but stopped it b/c their content does not seem suited to a serious rider. Hardly any decent training / racing articles, mostly boring human interest pieces or their " bike town" operation.

    Triathlete magazine always has good cycling articles, the staff seems to be a little cycling -biased. And good gear reviews and racing and nutrition strategies.

    Thanks for all the suggestions! From the looks of it I will be picking up a copy of Women's Health and maybe Her Sports. MIght also see if I can find a copy of Cycling Plus... Thanks again!
