Closing out 2007 - results?

I won 2 state championships, was second in a third, won the BARR (best all around rider) for the cat 4's and upgraded to a 3, so all in all a very good year for me.
Here's to next year and racing with the big girls.

i was 30th in the country-not great but odd inthat i broke my pb for a 50 and 100 and last year i was 25thj,shows that in the uk more women are doing the BBAR

i also managed to work out my ipod
train 2 wonderful springer spaniels
not give up
and not get any points on my driving licence!

Our BARR is just for our state (Washington) and consists of all the State Championship races - so Road Race (second), crit (first), TT(forth, but points for third since 1st place was not a state rider), TTT (ninth), circuit race (I was out of town at another race..), hillclimb (first) and stage race (fifth). The idea is to reward consistancy across the disciplines, though you can do well even if you only race a few races if you win them.... in the men's 1/2 field second place only did 2 of the series, but he won both of them.

I exceeded my goal. Aside from February, the weather was generally conducive to riding outside (drought!) in 2007. Had a lot of stress--hell at work, loss of a beloved dog, addition of a "spirited" puppy--so slogging out the miles kept me grounded.

This year, I sold my Terry Fast Woman to someone who is giving her the outdoor miles she deserves. I also got my Seven and my Kona Lisa, both at superb [sale] prices. To my surprise, I'm discovering a love of riding off road, even if it's just non-technical stuff.

For 2008, I'll try to keep to my goal of riding every day that conditions are safe/relatively comfortable, but I'm hoping the work situation improves in 2008 so I don't have so much stress/anxiety to burn off. I have a couple of irons in the fire that I am hoping will work out. If not, I have only 9 more months to complete my current assignment, and I will try to make lemonade out of lemons, if the other things come to naught.

I am pretty new to riding, so I only set two goals -

Ride as much as absolutely possible with a huge smile on my face - check!!!

Participate in my first organized ride and do a metric century - check!!!!

I rode 1000 miles, 800 of them solo miles. This year, watch out!!!!!

Today, on the shop ride (at the intersection of Democracy Blvd. and Seven Locks Rd, but who's keeping track?? ), I officially turned over to 3,000 miles for the year!! Yay! Don't know if riding is in the cards for me tomorrow, but I now have 3,011 miles (4,845 km). Whew!

Way to go! I remember back in the spring when you were complaining about how far ahead I was. I knew you'd pass me sometime in June and that I'd never catch back up Maybe in 2008 I can make it more competitive.

Well it took me until today to complete my 2,500 miles for BJ but I got it done - only by riding 34 miles Sat in cold and wind, 24 miles yesterday in the rain (ugh!) and the final 20 today in the sun (finally) but I had to pay for the sun by riding in the accompanying 20-30kt winds.

I haven't decided what the goal will be for next year - waiting to see if there's going to be a new BJ contest for us.

This year turned out really well for me, despite the down time I had September thru November.

I did 25 metric centuries, 3 imperial centuries and two double metrics. The two double metrics were both brevets. (The second brevet was actually a 300K, but after about 200K I decided gee, this was fun, but I think I'll call it a day now. )

My total mileage for the year was 5362, which is way more than the original goal I had set of 4400 miles. Total climbing was about 226,000 feet.

That said, I'm not particularly proud about all the DNFs I had this year. Along with the 300K DNF, I also quit at about 70 miles into a 200K permanent in April when I had the Head Cold from Hell.

I also bailed out on the Wine Country 200K on Cinco de Mayo, but I wasn't planning to do the whole 200K route anyhow, and I had many willing accomplices ...

And, I DNF'd on the Siskiyou metric, and Day 1 of Waves to Wine, both of which were in September when I was feeling like crud.

I hope I don't DNF as much in '08 as I had in '07. But, I'm still learning my physical & psychological limits, so I'm very pleased with what I accomplished. And even more important, after my autumn lull, I'm really enjoying riding again.

HeHe, I will have to remember to wear my bracelet for the half-marathon in 2 weeks! Always makes me laugh!

2007 was a good biking year for me too. I don't track my miles (probably should though) but I took on a lot more challenging rides this year. Did the coast ride from home in CA.... 70 miles from Palo Alto, over the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, back over the mountains home. I also finished my first imperial century, the Holstein 100 with lots of climbing and lots of wind. I have JoBob to thank for that one! She was great support and company on my first century! I will miss riding with you Jo

On the non-riding side, I finished my first organized run, the 12k Bay to Breakers in SF, and signed up for my first half-marathon (in 2 weeks!), finished my PhD, and moved to TX to start a real job. It has been a good year!

For 2008, I will finish my first half-marathon, hope to do the Houston-Auston MS 150 (on the waiting list), and hopefully at least 1 imperial century. I will also be getting a new bike sometime early in the new year... just have to decide which one!
