When people ask how much money I spent on my bike, I'm happy to tell them (probably about $1500 as he sits right now), and then add, "With dilegence I can get it up to $3000." That's only partially a joke. I think I can do it with just the planned upgrades.
When poor thrifty DH turns white at that figure, I ask him in all seriousness if he's priced a heart attack recently.
Then I mumble something about the price of gas.
Thing is, it's all true. We could spend the money on gas and docs, or on a new wheelset that makes me smile. Hmmm, decisions, decisions, decisions
So, bottom line: Think of your bike(s) as an investment in physical and mental health. It makes it easier to spend the money.
Oh yes, ain't having a new bike just fun? Enjoy it.
