I don't know - when I decided I wanted a road bike, I fell into a vintage Peugeot for $65! and I Love that bike. Now I"ve got a friend building out a vintage Trek and I have not a clue what hes' going to charge me (if he even charges me!)

Congrats on the new bike Lady - may he/she/it serve you long and well!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

When people ask how much money I spent on my bike, I'm happy to tell them (probably about $1500 as he sits right now), and then add, "With dilegence I can get it up to $3000." That's only partially a joke. I think I can do it with just the planned upgrades.

When poor thrifty DH turns white at that figure, I ask him in all seriousness if he's priced a heart attack recently. Then I mumble something about the price of gas.

Thing is, it's all true. We could spend the money on gas and docs, or on a new wheelset that makes me smile. Hmmm, decisions, decisions, decisions

So, bottom line: Think of your bike(s) as an investment in physical and mental health. It makes it easier to spend the money.

Oh yes, ain't having a new bike just fun? Enjoy it.
