    virtual bike tour

    Hey,

I posted here a bit last year as euglossa. Was too busy to do much but lurk this year.

I meant to get a trainer last winter, but didn't have the money. My spring and summer work schedule meant I didn't get many miles this year-maybe 400to the previous year's 1100.

I finally got my bike set up on a trainer (cycleops 2 fluid and I love it) and have been getting a half hour a day for the last week.

My question is, is there some place online where you can chart miles ridden on to a map for a virtual ride? I thought I'd 'ride' across country to meet my brother who is logging virtual miles on his treadmill.

I googled looking for that kind of thing Sunday night and found a lot less than I thought! There were several sites that had a spreadsheet you could download for your own computer, and then good ol' www.bikejournal.com , and according to the email I sent myself in case I had time to keep looking, http://www.bikerides.com/bike/bike.pl was the only other one. It looks like it has a virtual tour to it.
Must be a tad harder than we think it is to put together

Oops!!! (edit found the *next* email and it had these:
and http://www.arniebakercycling.com/han..._log_basic.htm is another online link with a spreadsheet file.

If all else fails, why not chart your miles based on your average speed from when you were riding regularly? If, for example, you averaged about 15 mph before, then give yourself 15 miles for every hour on the trainer. Then, transfer those miles to www.MapMyRide.com & begin charting your journey across the country. If you save your ride you can add to it at any time.
