Ugh, I am having an aweful problem with my smartwool. Tis the dry air season with winter and EVERY time I wear my smartwool I get so much static cling I change. I despise the smell of static guard - does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this??

And I do have a humidifier that I need to dig out and get running....

What I do goes against most wool care advice.
We have 3 indoor cats and the hair sticks to everything bigtime- especially to wool! I wash my wool on gentle cycle in the machine, and then I put them on very low air dry in the dryer (no heat) with a fabric softener dryer sheet. This goes against what they all advise....but it's the only way all the cat hair comes off! I get a dryer sheet that I like the smell of (squeeze the box in the supermarket and sniff, or buy the unscented if you prefer). Sometimes they only need *some* time in the air fluff dryer cycle, then can finish drying by laying out. (We have a small wooden folding clothes drying rack in our bedroom. The rules are to always leave a couple of rungs for the other person, and to take your stuff off when dry)

Static can be a real problem in winter. My own feeling is that the dryer sheets are my friend, keeping my wool soft, relaxed, and cat fur free. If you use it only to control static and not to help remove cat fur, then you might only need to use the sheets occasionally.

I let all my wool stuff air dry in the basement---I find that helps with the static cling quite a bit.......If anything still has a bit of static when I put it on, I gently and lightly rub in a little bit of moisturizer. Works especially well with socks that are threatening to hold your pant legs hostage........Hope that helps!
