Tests, fluency & foreign languages for you

Well, I was lucky enough to be pre-selected and tested for my French language fluency. For some Canadian govn't jobs. As you may know, English and French are Canada's 2 official languages.

But jeesh, it was dragging up memory on stuff that I had barely used since 20 years ago. Last time I took French courses was at university ...

Tests lasted 3 hrs. There is going to be more testing --on my speaking/verbal skills in French. Should be the most pathetic performance vs. my reading comprehesion and writing skills.

Well, if nothing comes out of all this....at least I know..it will still be a good experience to go to Quebec and France. Knowing even some words and phrases is helpful.

Oh well, I can't get too sad about this. My first language/mother tongue is Chinese and it might have deteroriated to a point that it's worse than my French now. Now that is sad because my mother tongue is of greater value/importance to me vs. French --as the alternate language to English.

Congratulations on at least completing some of your tests. Wow, 3 languages is impressive. My mom was Italian and spoke it with her sisters as we were growing up. I sure wish I was taught it as a kid. I think if you learn a second language in your early life, picking up another language is less of a hurdle. Congrats, again

let us know how you did, Shootingstar. I am very familiar with the effects of not using a language. But you know what the antidote is too, go back to China for a vacation. that will spruce up your skills nicely. (and the same for french, go to Quebec!)
