ARGH! I seriously would be VERY interested if I hadn't just bought a MOTORcycle.

    Drat!

Lemme think about it some more.

Disclaimer: I'm completely tire-kicking, so please take as long to respond to this as you like ...

--Do you know if going from triple to double requires a new (left) shifter in Chorus? (Sometimes you do and sometimes you don't, really...).

    --Top tube length???

I think it's about my size...

Top tube length measured with a tape measure (probably not very accurate) is 21" (center of seat tube to center of head tube).

The shifters on this bike are Record and yes, they will accomodate a double. We know this for sure because the bike was a double when DH bought it. He tried to switch it into a compact double, and it wouldn't work. Something about the frame geometry wouldn't allow the gearing to work just right (even the 'expert' at our LBS couldn't get it to work right), so he went with a triple which works beautifully.

It is a very nice bike. Totally the wrong size for me and I just built up a "lesser bike" lesser brand name of K2.

Did the local bike shop try to relocate the front deraillure when they went and installed a compact double? The height off the big chain ring to the deraillure is important. And too the angle of the front deraillure the chain ring. From the photo, the bike has a clamp on type deraillure so it should have been easy to relocate the height. The frame geometry should not have mattered that much (at least that's my thought)

    Hi Smillingcat -

Yep, they did all kinds of adjustments on that front deraileur. I believe that they even tried a totally different one. My H was determined to make it work, so for months, it was a little tense around our house as one thing after another failed to solve the problem!

Once he gave up and went with the triple, peace returned! Luckily, the bike worked as beautifully with the triple as it did with the double. Phew!

Bringing this back up to the top to let everyone know that this bike is still available. I believe that it will be posted on ebay before too long, so if anyone is interested, speak now or forever hold your peace!
