Also, bicyclists make excellent spinners, because they have the cadence thing down. It's cool. And it's cool when guys do it. You can get fiber from anywhere - check for local alpaca or merino sheep wool farms. He can then sell his yarn, which is in high demand these days with the knitting craze....

A trouble free transition from our life in the USA to our new life in Australia.

I Got What I Wanted!
No, I didn't win the lottery, but feel like I did. DH and I got into the bike tour we've been trying to get into for three years! It's Cycle Zydeco, a four-day, 200-mile tour in the spring that starts in Lafayette, Louisiana and goes to various small towns in the area. I grew up in the area and am very excited to be able to go home and ride.

Actually, this is not so weird! DH has recently learned to embrace the magic of wool...and he actually asked how hard it would be to make our own yarn and knit our own stuff! My oldest son (9 at the time) and some of his mates went to knitting classes. They made some wonderful stuff. I got a lovely scarf as a present.

The one pictured is the one I got him - an Ashford Kiwi. They are very good beginner's to intermediate wheels and quite reasonably priced. My DH took two lessons and then the rest was on his own. Originally Posted by GLC1968

You're in Western NC, right? I know of an Alpaca farm - Venezia Dream - just east of Asheville - very nice woman who owns it who is also on the board of the National fiber co-op. She could sell you some fine wool to work with!
Good luck and have fun with it. Spinning is in awesome pasttime!
(I just noticed your in Greensboro... so not so close to Asheville. But I bet there's other farms nearby to you... including sheep farms!)
