On the plus side, my tummy is getting flatter. I have to weigh myself fully-clothed on the shipping scale at work, so maybe I'm wearing heavier jeans today. I'll just keep on -- can't give up, I've got 6 weeks to go, and it's got to start moving in the right direction. Don't give up, don't give up...
I have heard that jeans can weigh up to 4 pounds. Whether or not that is the truth? Who knows! When I am up on the scales, I always blame the jeans! I really would bet that is the reason, plus the period puts on some weight, too. Are you going to weigh later in the week to see if there is a difference?
    Keep on being good!

Yeah, I'll check it before the weigh-in next Monday. If I don't, I might be tempted to just give up.

My BF is coming to visit this weekend , and staying through the holidays, so I'm gonna have to be extra careful. Luckily, we've got long rides or hikes planned for each day, so I can balance all the good food we eat.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.

Okay, after moving the scale around and trying to get the weighing conditions close to the baseline (no period, good food tracking, good exercise) I weighed this morning.

    180.8.

If I play my cards right, I could be in the 170s by the end of the week!

KG, the method used by my health care provider is called near infrared interactance. I think the results are somewhere between the "dunk tank" method (said to be the gold standard) and skin fold calipers in accuracy. I'm not really counting on it being all that accurate. I just wanted a baseline, so I'd know if I made any progress six months from now.

The technician fed the data I gave her regarding height, weight, and exercise frequency, time and intensity into the machine. Then a wand was placed on the bicep of my dominant arm which sends infrared light into the muscle. I haven't taken the time to research how this works. But the numbers I got back were:

    Weight - 134 lbs
    Height - 61"
    Body fat - 24.4%
    Fat weight - 33 lbs
    Fat-free weight - 101 lbs

I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing regarding eating as well as I can and exercising regularly through the winter and not think too much about these figures. I'd like to get down to 120 at some point. From a cycling standpoint, I think that would be a good weight for me based on my build. To do that, I'd probably have to lose a lot of fat while gaining more muscle.

Ultimately, the tape measure will tell me more than the number on the scale. At my age - 55 - post menopause, with a sedentary job and long commute, I'm not sure what is possible. I'm trying to look at this as a science project. I've never consciously tried to lose a substantial amount of weight before. I've only been cycling for five years. I know I weigh more now than I did five years ago, but I know that extra weight is muscle I never had before cycling. Whether I can carve off unwanted fat remains to be seen.

Sorry to ramble. I pobably didn't even answer your questions . You might try finding a place that uses a different method of calculating body comp and compare those to the figures you have with the calipers. But I wouldn't stress too much about it. You lost a good sum of weight and have kept it off. That's something to crow about.

Didn't someone mention a spoonful of powdered cocoa mixed into ricotta cheese as a snack earlier? I need to do a search in this thread...
Yup! I do a little cocoa, splenda, and vanilla mixed with the ricotta. LOVE IT! It's my go-to snack when I'm craving something I shouldn't have. I also do SF fudgecicles, Adams peanut butter, and Lite Cool Whip. Mix it all together and it's a great desert.

Yesterday was ok but not great food wise.
B - ww english muffin w/sf jelly (home-made with Cabernet grapes!
L - KFC boneless wings in buffalo sauce (very bad but sooo good)
    S - Dried apple rings
D - Chicken veggie soup (home made with LOTSA veggies)
S - I kept tasting the apples I had cooking for apple butter Kinda like apple pie without the crust LOL and a glass of red wine.

No rides today as I have to work. It's my first day training to be a dog trainer with Petco.

Made some poor choices over ther weekend. Had some chips and salsa and home made pumpkin bread. I have been in a down mood lately which doesn't help. It is "that time" too which doesn't make it any easier. And a few of my co-workers have just been picking at me for no reason. They mimick things I say or just contradict me. I just wish I knew, like I am sure most of you, which eating plan would work. I eat pretty well to begin with. Keep my calories at about 1400. I don't eat any fast food. Sorry for my poor me scenario..It will be bettern next time

    Staying accountable:

    Monday, November 12

    Calories: 1277
    Exercise: 1 1/2 hours swimming
    Water: 64 ounces
    Vitamins/Supplements: Multivitamin, Calcium, Soy, Flaxseed
    Weight: 143

    Tuesday, November 13
    Calories: 1746
    Exercise: 30 minutes aerobics
    Water: 64 ounces
    Vitamins/Supplements: Multivitamin, Calcium, Soy, Flaxseed
    Weight: 142 - Down 1 pound!

I am totally wiped out from my swim workout yesterday - 90 minutes of hard work - everything on my body is tired! So today I only did an easy 15 minutes on a recumbant bike and worked on my pull-ups.

Today was a teacher work day at school and we all brought in a favorite Thanksgiving dish and had a wonderful "Thanksgiving dinner" for lunch. There was a ton of food, so it was good practice for me for the real thing next Thursday.

I ate turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, turnips, corn, a small roll, and fruit for dessert. Not too bad!

My calories are up a little for the day, but at least I didn't go totally crazy.

Kelowna -- two gingersnaps is okay, unless they're BIG gingersnaps. I say you forgive yourself!

C'mon guys! Quit getting down on yourselves!

Now, I'm not trying to call anyone out, and I mean everything I say with the utmost respect and goodwill.

You don't have to be an angel 100% of the time. It's okay to have a small slice of cheesecake, a couple of cookies, or a soda or two. Hell, I make it a point to have a dessert-style snack once daily just to keep me sane, and since I know I'm getting that little treat after dinner it helps me keep everything else under check throughout the day. I noticed one user mentioned chips and salsa as a poor choice. In my opinion that's a fairly healthy snack. It's not like a king-size snickers or anything!

Now I'm not saying eat the whole cake or an entire tin of cookies, but mental health is just as important as physical health and if we start associating dessert-style foods with "bad", then we down ourselves for indulging every once in a while and I think that mental state and the way it makes us feel about ourselves can do far more damage than a couple of cookies ever will.

Just use your heads, watch your portion sizes, and remember that even the healthiest foodstuffs in excess can be bad for you. Hell, everything's bad for something.

    Take care of yourselves, girls!

Well said Steinspinne. I believe in the 80/20 rule. Be good 80% of the time and splurge a little 20% of the time. It keeps me sane.

I have been doing good with the eating portion, but just wasn't feeling the workout this morning. Ended up only running a mile (instead of 5), and then got on the dreadmill for some interval work for 20 minutes. I may try to squeeze in a run this afternoon. Just feeling blah.
I am never down. I am either up or getting up.
