    Canti Brake ????

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I just completed my first dedicated cross bike, and I am running the TRP Euro X canti brakes. I am sure that my problem is not unique in that I do not have alot of stopping power. The shop that set up the brakes on my bike said that "there is little room for adjustment that can be done to improve power". Assuming this is true, what pads would you recommend that I switch to to improve brake performance. I am using a standard alloy Mavic rim (no carbon in my budget) and the stock pad. Assuming that what the shop said was less than accurate, where would I find info. and tips for fine tuning these brakes. I went to the TRP site, and to no surprise they have no manuals for any model. Any help would be great.

    Thanks,

    Rhiannon

I run Kool-Stop Salmon brake pads and Paul's Touring Canti's. Cantilever brakes aren't very strong, especially compared to road bike brakes. But if you're riding the bike off-road or for cyclocross racing, the power of canti's should be more than sufficient. Where I notice the difference between my canti's and my road brakes is when I'm riding my cross bike with road wheels on the road. I can't stop on a dime from 40mph the way I can on the road bike.

    Hope this helps!
