In the old part of Amsterdam, most of the streets are too narrow for cars, and even in the new part (as in the rest of the Netherlands), most people travel by bicycle. Upright, coaster brake, heavy, indestructible, single-speed flatland bikes. Instead of mega parking garages, they have mega bicycle garages at the train station and urban centers, staggered in height so one bike's handlebars fit over/under the ones next to it. Literally thousands of bikes are parked in these garages. It's a really cool city in a lot of ways, but that's one of the reasons why! Originally Posted by Tuckervill
