Have you had that canned salmon lately? it's good but there's a whole vertebral column in there, rather unappetizing. I must confess I pick that part out

I am the worst when it comes to taking pills. I just don't want to. You can't make me. Wah!

Knot, I'm really hungry for smoked salmon. Oh why do I get on this forum when I haven't eaten??

Re: taking pills...my middle son is 23 and he's only recently learned to swallow pills. It's been a hassle--the pediatrician gave him a hard time about needing liquid antibiotics when he was 12. He would rather suffer than swallow them, so we usually just let him suffer. But his older brother kidded him about it a lot.

Not about to be ridiculed like him, my younger son (14) learned to swallow them at a young age--without water. He went to a college football game yesterday, and got a headache. So he went to the first aid and asked for an ibuprofen. He popped it in his mouth and swallowed it. The EMS guy at the first aid station said, "Dude! Did you swallow that without water?!.... You're the man!!"

(I prefer he didn't swallow them without water, but if that's the most macho thing he insists on doing, I'm guess I'm okay with it.)

Zen, those fish vertebrae are where all the calcium on the label comes from!

    Canned Salmon Salad
    (you won't notice the vertebrae!)

    1 can salmon
    mayonnaise
handful or two of walnut halves and pieces
    baby salad greens

Open the can without looking at the bones. Dump it in a bowl. Mash it a little and mix in walnuts and mayo. Put a scoop on a bed of salad greens.

    Yummers!

(this was our standby "last minute dinner" for years, until I got really tired of it)

I used to eat a lot of canned salmon. I like to make salmon cakes.

Tuckervill, I don't have a problem swallowing pills, just reminding my self to take the darn things. Ack!

For those who don't like swallowing pills, there are liquid and chewable forms of calcium out there . . .

    Ahhh!!!
I thought my strapping 6'2" son was the only one!
He's nearly 17 and if I don't have liquid stuff in the house he would rather suffer!
He gags... crazy cause he can eat all sorts of chunky foods but he has some kind've head block (throat block) when it comes to teeny pills!!!

Oh... and I drink almost a litre of milk a day... plus cheese and yogurt...
I am lucky as I used to be lactose intolerent but seem to have grown out of it.
I don't take calcium (or any other supplements) at all.

Thanks for the needed reminder! I don't drink cow's milk . . . only soy milk, and I eat very few dairy products except a bit of cheese or some yogurt once in a while. I did find some liquid calcium at Whole Foods that I really like, so will pick up some more and pay more heed to your reminder. I think I'm already starting to get a hump (or is that because I love camels so?) lololol
