In Arkansas kids can take a test and earn a certificate to ride anything under 50cc on the street (eta: at age 10). At 14, they can ride up to 150cc without a license, and 250cc with a license (I think that's right). My son doesn't need a permit at all, but I'm requiring it. He is also eligible for his driving learner's permit at 14, and will get his restricted license (drive with a licensed adult in the front seat) 6 months later if he passes the driving portion.

I really like that kids can drive at 14 here, because that gives them 2 years of supervised practice before they're turned loose on the roads by themselves. It worked well with my other two. I required 200 hours of safe supervised driving before I'll let them get insurance, etc. Neither of them has ever had a wreck.

I took my boy out driving yesterday in a new subdivision where there was no traffic. He was already able to operate the car because he drives our truck around the property when we need it moved. He did pretty well for his first time.

    Brandi - any riding yet?

I just took mine out today to go to the next town over and have coffee with Robyn (from the forum). What FUN! It was a glorious fall day although a little crisp. I am DEFINITELY in love with the scooter! Now I am sad that winter is approaching .

Now that I've tried this one out, I told DH he needs to get me my own - the Metropolitan in Pink Hibuscus!

    Pics, Brandi, we want pics!

    SheFlye- that is AWESOME!

Queen- yes i would love some of your links and forums for scooters! Please send them to me. I've been thinking about a scooter for about 8 months now, but I need to know a lot more.

Oh, man, I've had the scooter bug for a while now, too. I just talked to the sister of a coworker who has a Honda Elite 80cc that she's selling for $1000. She commuted on it for a summer until she decided to get a regular motorcycle so she could ride on the highway to get to where her boat is docked.

I'll probably go look at it this weekend. This is all I need--another toy! But it's red, so I'm not sure I can resist...
