Oh, forgot--teigyr, that looks like a beauty! Is the chain kinked because of guck build up, or for some other reason? What about the tyres and cables (I almost always replace cables right away, although often the tyres are all right once the tubes have been replaced)?

It's only 99 CENTS plus $25 shipping. You saved that on the cost of your flu shot. Go for it. You can build it up later, s l o w l y.

Sandra, you are so BAD telling everyone to buy all these bikes!
    Why don't YOU get it?

I think you need to join BA and go to 12 speed meetings.

Hey, even if all these bikes were given away for FREE, we only have so much room and so much time/energy available for fixing them up. How many old bikes should one accumulate, after all?
I envision you one day with that falling down barn full of rusting old bikes, just like that guy you visited.

Plus, don't forget that many of us are already addicted to buying WOOL.

"Hello, my name is Sandra and I'm addicted to bicycles"

Lisa, I've checked into the 12-step meetings, but there are none in my area. Maybe I can find an online one. It's a good think I'm not a smoker or much of a drinker. I just might have an addictive personality.

The chain is kinked up because links are frozen. Who knows when the last time the chain was replaced. DH will be working on it so I won't be riding it for a few weeks at least. This is a dangerous hobby

For a Mixte ride, we will (DH and I) need another Mixte so he can go along. Didn't I see something about a Raleigh in here???

    Oooh, pretty Motobecane!

    !!!!SEATTLE MIXTE ALERT!!!!

Today, at Recycled Cycles, Trek420 and I saw a sweet (but slightly battered) 48cm baby-blue Nishiki mixte 12 spd for $85. www.recycledcycles.com 206-547-4491

I was ready to buy it *right that very moment* but Trek420 talked me out of it. 'cuz basically there is NOWHERE in my little 900 sq ft apartment to put another bike!

It had stem-mount friction shifters, SunTour parts mostly. New generic rims and tires.

    sigh...

Alice, that is a gorgeous Motobecane. My husband found that same frame on eBay and was really disappointed when I lost that auction.
