Well ladies,
After some reflection today and a little self analysis that included a heart to heart with myself and the DH, it seems that I did not take enough time off at the end of my race season and that the aches and pains that I am feeling can be directly attributed to coming back too soon.
I think I knew it deep down inside, but who listens to me anyway. So here are the steps I have come up with today to help dig myself out of this hole.
1. I am not participating in the race next weekend. I never really wanted to do it. I was in for support of the other riders in my group. I can still go be supportive friend. The thought of pushing hard right now holds no appeal to me.
2. Rest for the next two weeks. Activity will include walks in the park where I love to run. Great trails. Nice colors right now. Maybe some yoga.
3. Nothing that resembles, sounds, looks or smells like training until Dec.
4. Return to activity in November. Limit any group mt bike rides that could potentally turn in to a hammer fest. Work on skills. Play. Ride for fun.
5. Start some lite jogging in November. No watch, no schedule. Turn my walks in to a walk/jog session.
6. Return to the pool to work on skills. No yardage.
That is what I have so far.
It is in writing...you are my witnesses.....
I really want to do this right. I am mad at myself for digging the hole in the first place.

glad to hear you're taking some time off Rnr... he he.. R'nR no longer stands for "rock n roll" girl but "rest and relaxation" girl!![]()
Take the rest you need!
Well now it's time for another one of my coaches "isms"
"Now you're your using your head for something other than a hat rack."
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Yes he really does say that to me when I make the decision to rest instead of train. In certain people that a really hard step to take but it's the right one 95% of the time.
Living life like there's no tomorrow.

Great! Think how rested and rarin' to go your body will be after a nice period of recovery! You will be stronger than ever, and even more important, you will be mentally ready for the training!
I am not training until January, when my half marathon training starts. It's hard not doing something every day, but right now I am focusing on enjoying swim class and rockclimbing. I have seen major improvements in my climbing, which is awesome, and swimming is fun as always. Once January rolls around, though, I know I will be chomping at the bit for some training!

well, since you're like me; not a human "being" but a human "Doing" you have to find stuff to do... You eliminated a lot of stuff, but i think perhaps you created some space... Do you have any non-physical hobbies like crafts or painting or reading...?
I read all the time, even when I am busy. I am just antsy.....I have plenty of stuff to do....including finally going shopping for some new clothes ( blech),
I am just ANTSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a hard time in the weeks after completing Cycle Oregon. I realized that I not only missed the training that led up to it, I missed the focus, the sense of being on a mission, the feeling of being on a path toward a challenging goal... Maybe that's part of it for you, too?
