Medication is also an option, but I understand that 30 minutes of aerobic exercise is the equivalent of an anti-depression medication.
I just want to proceed with caution here, because this statement makes it all sound so simple. I know Mr. Silver didn't intend to condense a very complex problem into a simple solution. But when you're depressed, and you read a simplification like that, it can be very overwhelming. When I was at my darkest time, It would have sounded just like another thing I'm failing at.

I would be happy if the statement read "aerobic exericise CAN BE the equivalent of an anti-depression medication." Consider that some people who exercise regularly and even train for competition can be depressed and on medication.

I'm sorry, Mausland, that you seem to be suffering so. Please confide in someone--your partner, friend or parent--who can help you. One minute at a time, dear.

    You're right T. That's an important clarification.

Many years ago, I took depression meds...they got me over a hurdle...and then I was able make choices that led me over the top...

I'm not very motivated to ride these days either. Unless I have someone to be responsible to (like a group ride or a friend) I have a hard time getting started.

I have also lost my job, I've been looking for something suitable for a year.

I'm not bored, though, and I'm not depressed.

I am however, an avid gym goer. taking spin classes and doing my pt home program and core exercises so I can walk without pain.

I'm also involved with dog rescue.

I just made a conscious decision to get out and do stuff.

    mousland,
I'm so sorry to hear that you're suffering. I have found that when I'm hating going out on my bike, yoga does the trick. If you can find a yoga studio, I highly recommend that you go talk to a yoga teacher, and they can design a practice for you and tell you when classes are, sometimes just going to a class makes me feel better
if you cannot make it to a studio, check out:
yogatoday.com where they have free yoga classes every day
yogajournal.com also has information about anything that you need to know.

    feel better

i send you hugs and kisses!!!!
