Re advice for multi day rides- I actually do all of the abovementioned suggestions (Thanks I love suggestions)and another which I'll pass on to everyone here- when on the flats (best place to try this) get into the drops and push your bellybutton towards your back. This will stretch out your back- a nice relief on long rides. I also have learned to move as far back on my seat as I can to get pressure off the front. That seems to help too. I do that a lot on hills as it seems to make hill climbing easier and a bit faster, too!

Anybody use any other cream besides chamois butter which is what I use?

One more thing- I just discovered Sheila Moon bike shorts- Made in San Francisco, thankyouverymuch! They have a different kind of waist that isn't as binding as normal shorts and the chamois is fab. I wore them on a century last weekend and loved them. Cost $65.00 (less than Pearl Izumis!)

Both rides sound great, but unfortunately I'll be out of town the entire weekend.

But who will call out "LOW" if you're not around Petunia?

    Assos Chamois Cream

Bike Goddess - I have used Chamois Butt'r and Assos Chamois Cream. Definitely recommend the Assos for long rides. It is a little mentholated, so it stings a bit, but after I'm on my saddle for a few minutes, I don't even notice it. I like it because it's richer than the Chamois Butt'r (which is good and I still use it on shorter rides) and doesn't seem to "soak into" my chamois, or whatever happens to it. It's probably a moisture thing. The CB is very easy to wash off, the Assos a little harder, so the CB is probably more water-soluable than the Assos. Anyway Assos is my chamois cream of choice, but it ain't cheap.

REI doesn't have it, but lots of smaller bike shops carry it. I get it at ST Bikes, locally, but that's just because they're close to my house. I've seen it for sale online... I think Colorado Cyclist and World Cycling Productions' sites carry it. I'll bet if you call around to some shops in your area, you'll find someone carries it.

Hey hey! Can I invite myself along on this one? This is the Diablo junction, yes?

I have been known to skip out of work for more important things.

If it matters, I'm off this Friday! Anyone else feeling well enough to play hookey... er... "work" Friday?

    Ride on Friday?

Yellow, if you're going to drive all the way out here, you'll want to do the summit. I'm always willing, and usually able, to play hooky, and this Friday would be OK with me. Instead of rain we'll have to deal with heat, though, since it's supposed to be about 80 that day.

Anyone else feeling some sort of malady coming on for which the only cure is a Diablo ride?

I could be talked into a friday ride. I'm in the middle of final exams, but if we start early or late enough, I'm in. I can't do a middle of the day because I need to be on campus (UC Berkeley)........

P.S. I need to do a training ride with a loaded trailer, so I will inch my way to the junction while you all go all the way to the summit....... It will be my first ride with the trailer - Ill try to find some time to get a flat ride in before that - but this week is tough!
    Cheers!

I might be able to do this since I'll be missing out on Slug Gulch and may not be able to ride Sunday due to rain. I'm going through withdrawals! The DTs are about to hit.

    I'll know more tonight.

I have no idea how long this ride takes, but I'm up for a late afternoon ride as long as I don't get home at 11 pm or something like that.

That would be great if V could come. I know you she can't jsut take days off whenever. And it sounds like it may work for Cindy too (later, that is).

BTW, the forecast I saw (NWS-NOAA) says partly cloudy and 78 for a high there around Diablo. I imagine it would be cooler up on the mountain??
