I don't know, I think racing won. If life won, you would have been eating chocolate while getting your feet rubbed by Fabio.

Oh, wait, that's my life .

I'm looking forward to getting home and getting back into routine. the bike shop is all consuming lately. but I'm going to start getting up early to get my training in. I do not want to lose all that I've gained- or lost- these past few months. well, thanks again. much love from denise heading east on interstate 8 just outside of Yuma AZ.... ciao!

Ahhhh... my hometown. What a dreadful place!

I think you're doing GREAT!!!! I like what Ruth said: sometimes you bite the bear, sometimes the bear bites you. Too funny (and kinda perfect for this occasion). The bear is biting you, but you're biting back by racing and keeping your head on in all the madness that surrounds you right now.
A favorite quote of mine: you mess with the bull, you're gonna get the horns. Go get those horns, take 'em by the ends and throw that bull around. You're full of spit and fire and nobody's gonna keep you down.

Now, having said all that- I'm sure you're dead tired and just need a day of total downtime. Take it, rest a little, and get back out there when you're feeling ready to take on the world.

    Wow Denise,

That sounds like you've had a go of it lately. Big hugs to you. And yeah, you rock. You went out there, raced and finished under conditions where lots of people would have bailed. AND.... you did really well on your run!!

Take time for yourself, decompress etc etc (what everyone already said).

This is an endurance sport and it's not about one day, it's about years.

    Results

    So I got my results...

I've done this race three times now, so I'll post the reulsts from all three races so you can see where I've come- or how I've slid... Last year was a bit skewed as they had to cancel the swim, so it was a short run. WAY SHORT!

And keep in mind in 2003 I weighed in at around 199 lbs. Last year was about 185 this year 170..

    SWIM .46 mi

    2003: 20:15
    2006 - no swim
2007: 21:30 (YIPES!!!) That is HORRIBLE! But I'd like to say it was long like the run!

    T1
    2003 4:14 (did I stop for brunch??)
2006 2:11 (no wetsuit to remove)
2007 3:24 (ugh!if they had peelers it woulda been faster! )

    Bike 12.4 miles

    2003 51:48
    2006 43:33
2007 42:30 (at least I'm moving in the right direction!)

    T2

    2003 2:11
    2006 1:27
    2007 1:50 (yeah, I know!)

Run - SUPPOSE to be 3 miles, course was same in 03-06 but changed this year and was 3.2 on my GPS. So results are skewed

    2003 33:26
    2006 32:11
2007 33:17 (by my gps I hit 3 miles at 31:33 so I'm taking that)

So there ya go... And remember, I wasn't in top form. I felt like CRAP, so I think I get an extra few points for that!

You sound like an extremely motivated hard working gal. All the numbers you lined up for all to see proved that. If that's what you do when you Don'T feel well, imagine what you 'll do next year when you do.
I don't think running "lost" or life "lost" you've got a very full busy life and you're doing it all! sometimes parts will suffer.

    good luck

for six tanks of gas you could have bought a bike.
