An Unemployed Husband...

My husband's been retired for the last year and he started cooking yet, or doing groceries. Well he does clean and work on the house and lanscaping, and mess up the laundry.......[slaps self for saying something so negative],


I keep telling myself......baby steps, he's figuring it out in baby steps.

I'm still doing the laundry and emptying the litter box. I did cook a bunch this weekend too. I had a hankering for chicken pot pie and I made a pumpkin pie too. We went to the grocery store together yesterday as well.

But he's making a stir fry right now for me to take for my lunch this week.

My DH is an early retiree (actually, he got laid off by our company during the telecom bust, but it worked out so well, he stayed at home!) He is phenomenal. He shops, cooks, does laundry, vacuums, cleans (not as well as I do, but he does some of it), maintains our bikes, does yardwork, repairs, house projects, etc....

Because of all this, since he's been home getting many of the chores done we used to have to spend all weekend doing, we've actually gotten to have fun on weekends -- riding, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and most recently, buying a sailboat and going sailing.

We are very fortunate to be able to live on my salary (not having children helps). He's happy, I'm happy; we're happy. We've been living this way for six years now, and it's working. This would not work for everyone, but it's just about perfect for us.
