I already wanted one. Must not go to LBS today... Need another week or two of saving.

Mixtes are not that easy to find. there is not a single one on Ebay nor is there one on Craigslist in my area.
and about the Brooks brown leather tape? I have it on my bike. it was expensive, but it is WONDERFUL!!!!
There ARE some on ebay, but you can't type in Mixte. Typically they are called women's or ladies bikes. I rarely find that someone calls it a mixte. Here are some on ebay right now.

Fuji
I'm sort of liking that Fuji myself. I go to Road Bikes, complete bikes and frames and type in (wom*,lad*) All auctions that begin with wom (women, woman, women's) or lad (ladies) will come up. These three are just on the first page. I'm sure there are more. And I look at ALL bikes listed as women's and ladies on St. Louis craigslist. Mixtes come up quite often.

Oh my gosh. I hope I have not messed up. The one I got is a 53 cm. My road bike is a 52. Hubby's is a 54. I can ride both.
PANIC. I hope it is not too large.

whew. I feel better. That one is much more expensive than mine.

ok, so several months ago i posted in here saying i was waiting for a sweetpea and as of last friday, i finally have it. so i figured i should come back and share 'cos i'm really really happy with the way it turned out. Natalie really went above and beyond and it totally exceeds all my expectations! And man, it's so light and fast (especially when compared to my previous 'round town bike, an old old trek hybrid, so i guess it's not *really* a fair comparison!)
More pictures on flickr, but here's one. I'm waiting for my rear rack to come in, and then I'll be outfitting the bike with the Bobike rear seat for my 3 year old and hooking up the Follow-Me Tandem for my 5-3/4 year old. Seems almost a shame to do it, but that's what the bike was designed for (hence the loooong wheelbase) and since all I want to do is ride this bike, I have to be able to bring the boys along.
the nitty gritty details:
• 50/34 170mm Shimano Ultegra crank
• 11x34 IRC Elite cassette
• Shimano XT M771 long cage rear derailleur
• Shimano 105 10-Speed front derailleur
• Velocity Synergy 650B wheels
• Nitto B603 handlebar, Velo Orange stem, Rivendell Woodies
• Dura Ace bar end shifters + Paul Thumbies
• Chris King bottom bracket and headseat
• Tektro 556 long-reach brakes
• Brooks B68s saddle
• Velo Orange touring pedals
• Honjo fenders
No they're not most places. I never even saw one growing up.
In Madison they're not super rare. If you head downtown, chances are good you'll spot one or two parked at a bike rack. Good luck trying to get one on Craigslist tho... they get snapped up fast unless they're priced like a new bike. If it's Japanese, it might get snapped up even then.
Huh? I don't understand? Maybe it's where you live, but I find them all the time on craigslist. The one I purchased last weekend ($40)had been on there since Sept. 19th. I just posted four that I found on ebay, and two nishikis that I was watching ended yesterday. Like I said, you can't search for mixte. These people with them in their garages have no idea WHAT they are.

It is where I live *g*. Madison has a lot of women on bikes, and some of 'em are on mixtes. And there's got to be a fair number of people hunting for 'em, or the "women's bikes" with mixte frames wouldn't have the listings vanish so quickly (a few days ago there was a Japanese one listed in town for under $100... it lasted less than 8 hours). A listing for $250+ will stick around a bit. Regular step throughs tend to stick around longer. The Motobecane that's up now for $120 will probably stay up longer. French threading seems to scare Craigslist buyers around here.

Madison Wisconsin? Are you close to Chicago? I've bid on a couple of "pick up only" mixtes there. $250???? Biking isn't as popular where I live, so I guess it's easier here. Guess there are trade-offs wherever you live. You have bikers, I have rednecks driving big trucks with shotguns.lol

Yup, Wisconsin. Chicago is a bit far for me, since I'm carless. Keep in mind that Madison is home to the state university, and Trek bicycles has their home office near here. So there is a large and very active used bike market. There's a good bike trail and lane system. There's something like 4-5 bike shops within walking distance of campus, one of which specializes in used bikes. All this adds up to used bikes costing more. I think mixtes are relatively common (ie, you'll see people using them on a near daily basis) because Madison has been bike happy for a very long time... it's not unusual to find a bike that's older than I am parked at the library.
Edit: the motobecane is still up... the seller dropped the price, which makes me nervous.

Mimi, here's one I found on Seattle craigslist.

Thanks for the good review on the leather bar tape. I'm going to look into it.
