Got My New Bike!!

So, I probably shouldn't post this until I have a picture, but I'm very happy about my new bike that I got last Friday. Thanks to all that gave their input on bikes... I actually ended up going in a different direction. Initially, I thought I'd get a touring bike, but as I checked out bikes and things developed, I ended up with a racier one. It was an interesting adventure coming to it. After a few disappointing trips to local bike shops, I ended up at Helen's Cycles in Arcadia and they were wonderful. My first trip there, they spent 2 1/2 hours with me, even staying after closing to fit a bike to me. It was a challenge, as I'm 6 feet tall with a whole lotta' leg and narrow shoulders and shorter torso. The first combo we created, I really loved. But ultimately we couldn't get the 2007 frame as they were all sold out. But they researched possibilities and I ended up with a 2007 Trek Madone 5.0 with much narrower handlebars, a shorter stem, and a women's saddle. I absolutely love it. The transition from mountain bike to road bike is going great and I've committed to my first century in February.

Wow- sounds like you found the perfect bike (and bike shop!).

Yay!!!! I'm so happy for you. Hopefully I'll get to see your new bike next weekend. Maybe I'll try for the palm springs century as well.

Congratulations,
Very exciting! I own a Trek and just love mine. Going on 4 years and still don't want to sell it. However, if I did my first choice would be Trek Madone too! Look forward to seeing pics.

Congratulations!
I'm so envious! I have been test riding bikes and not having much luck at all. I'm 5'5" with long legs for my height. There is a Trek store here but I haven't been in yet -- I need to do that! My Serotta is killing me and I've given up hope on getting her to fit me right. I'm looking at custom frames as well. Any other bikes you tested that you liked?

Ok, so I got up this morning thinking, "I need to post a picture of my bike!" First of all, I live in a TINY 400 square foot house and I was having an extremely hard time finding a place to take a picture. But I shot a few substandard pics and was all set to upload when I realized I didn't know where my camera cord was!! haha... So, no pic this morning, but my husband is a photographer. He is always wanting to take my picture and I'm never very cooperative. He was thrilled to hear he could take as many pictures of me as he wanted, as long as I'm on my bike, so I will have pictures soon. He is shooting a music festival right now, or I'd make him take them now.
KnottedYet- I ended up with Bontrager Race Light Handlebars.
I have a Serfas women's saddle, which I love. I didn't know how I would feel about the cut out but it is great. The REI guy had talked me out of a cut-out a few months ago. I'm currently using my Forte Campus Pedals that I transfered from my other bike because I didn't want too many things to get used to all at once. But the pedals are harder to get into on this bike and I pulled out of my right on a ride the other day. I can see why road bike pedals usually have more tension. I think I'm going to stick with SPDs for now because I like my shoes. I no longer need the platform side of the campus pedal, and it's usually more of a irritation when I can't find the right side.
