    Angry So Disappointed in TREK

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am so disappointed. After much research and with great excitement, I went to my LBS in March and ordered my very first road bike - a TREK 2100WSD C. Trek called my LBS a short-time later and moved the delivery date from early April to May 6th. So, I call my LBS today to find out if we were still on track for that delivery date. They called TREK only to be told that there is no longer any record of my order being in the "works". There are only two of those specific bikes waiting to be shipped and they were ordered back in Sept and Oct. Has anyone else had this experience trying to order a bike from TREK? Any recommendations for another bike - similar to what I was trying to order? I am 5ft 2, and this WSD bike seemed perfect! Thanks for letting me vent

    LBS reciept??

Did the bike shop get some type of invoice showing the order and details??

I don't have this type/or brand, but I hope that you can get it worked out soon. That is a real bummer to wait to find this out. I would be pissed off too!

You have to vent sometimes, it is ok, we all need to get it out from time to time. Especially when it comes to our bikes.

While visiting our LBS a few weeks ago we were told that it was a 'very good thing' that we ordered our 7500FX bikes when we did (early November) - apparently Trek is weeks behind schedule. Our LBS had been waiting for over a month for their entire order of new models.

Have you considered 'last year's model' 2100 WSD? I have a 2200 WSD that I absolutely love and while I know that there are other road bikes that their owners love as much as I do mine, I am sold on the WSD. Like you, I'm 5' 2" and love the geometry of the WSD.

Has your LBS checked for last year's 2100 WSD that other stores have in stock in your size ... the LBS owner does that routinely for us as well as his other customers. :::realizing that that comment shows how many bikes we've purchased!:::

If you would send me the size bike I'd be happy to check with LBS and see what they have in stock.

sometimes ya just gotta vent and get it outta your system. My first thought was: did your LBS place the order with Trek?.....or did they just think they did? and I'm with BikerChick on this one- my LBS will either call their other stores to find a/the bike OR will tell me what store is carrying them right now. I'm a huge Trekhead (oops.....wrong type of Trek) Trek fan but were you especially wanting a Trek?....Specialized, Cannondale, Terry all make or are women specific designed bikes, just to name a few. Again your LBS should be able to help point you in another direction. Let us know how it turns out!....and Alaska eh??......and I whine about it being cold here in NM when the lows are in the 40s!

No problems ordering my 15 inch Trek 7300fx. I ordered it at the beginning of April and it was delivered to my LBS in two weeks. To my chagrin, I ended up not purchasing it. The day I was going to pick up the bike, I caught up with an old friend who told me he had the exact same bike that he was trying to sell. He gave me the bike for free and I promised to help paint his living room.

    That's too bad!

It's too bad that they lost your order!! I have also heard from my LBS that Trek was backed up with orders. Maybe you could look into another bike. I know that Specialized has a WSD road bike, the Dolce. I think they have one similar to the Trek you wanted.

I'm 5'2 as well and I seem to fit well on the smaller men's frames. I have a Cannondale in a size 49, I also seem to fit on a men's Trek 2200 I believe it was a 52, but it may have been a 51.

    Good luck!!

hi there... ugh! I'd be annoyed too! I know LeMond also has the Zurich in WSD... you may want to look around for those... they are carried at your Trek stores as well... maybe they'll have one available for you...

good luck and hope it all works out well no matter what you get!

This has to be the deal of the year ... wait till I tell dh - he'll be green with envy! I've had to have my resident ace mechanic *tweek* my 7500FX (also 15 inch frame) and I love it as my 'commuter' bike as well as taking on the rail trails. #3 son is looking at the 7300FX but doubt he'll find as great of a deal as Shimpie!!

TREK replaced their ordering software is what I heard - and it put orders MONTHS out in some cases. Some stores (the stores who sell a LOT of trek I would presume) seemed to still be able to get things, but even they were having issues for a couple of weeks. Have your LBS call another shop and work a deal to see if one that has one in stock could be traded out with your LBS. Sometimes shops will do that if the manufacturer can't get it worked out.

You caould always call TREK and plead your case too - maybe you can find the person who can get it handled.

    Trek Disappointment

I'm 5'5'' but I have a Specialized Dolce Comp and I love it-wonderful bike and rides great. You might want to see if you can try out one of these.
I must say that I saw a Trek 2100C WSD and the color was so pretty (blue)
mine's red-a wonderful bike but still that blue color....

    Talking Trek order update

thanks so much for all the helpful advice - I really appreciate it! My LBS was able to locate a 2100WSD in the Seattle area and is going to have it shipped up. YAY!! I am soooo happy
It's not the "C" model, but we can make those adjustments. Ok, so I need a little reality check now.
I am going to do the 120 mile Clean Air Challenge May 14-15. I have been training on my mountain bike (it has some adjustments made to it so it's a little more road friendly). If I got the new bike on Wed, and if I could get in a 30 miler before the weekend 2 day ride,- and ended the ride w/no new aches and pains, stiffness, etc - would I be nuts to chance riding the new bike for that distance? I was thinking of putting my mountain bike seat on the road bike -
Please let me know your thoughts on this - I'd appreciate the input!

Just to add to the Trek problem. My husband just told me that they did have a computer glitch and a lot of information got lost like many orders. Maybe yours was one of them. I guess they didn't let the bike stores know.

I also have a Specialized Dolce Comp and love it. Fits me like a glove. However, I am happy to hear that you are getting the bike that you really wanted. If you can get a ride in or two, I would ride your new bike in that event. In fact I am sure you will find easier and faster than your mountain bike. After one ride on the new bike, I am sure you will not want to ride your mountain bike in the even. At least that I know that we be the way I would feel. See how you feel after the test ride.

Much luck to you and happy riding miles

    ~JoAnn
