There are a LOT of people who carry firearms whilst cycling. It does appear to be something that mainly men do, but I am certain that at least one or two women on this very forum carry arms (not me, though) when riding a bike. Considering that the response "Carry a gun" is always one of the first when someone asks "How do I feel safer when riding through X neighbourhood?", it's NOT just thug behaviour.

I don't get that...let's shave grams off our bike, but put a 3 pound gun in our pocket?

I dunno that I'd want to be riding my bike anytime near midnight, anyway. Even with all my blinkies and reflectors and lights.

Taking a gun with me wouldn't make me feel any better about it. I'd be more worried about just being seen that late at night than I would about needing to shoot someone.

3 lb gun vs. 3 lbs of good lights..... hmmmmm.

I didn't say it made sense . I always thought the advice was fairly ridiculous, especially as it seems that the persons most likely to ask the question live in places where ownership of guns is tightly controlled, and ownership of handguns is completely banned (such as Canada).

Hey man, not all guns weigh 3 lbs.

Personally, I'd just strap a sawed-off shot gun to my back. If you're gonna make it a go: go big.
    I enjoy it all.
