Tackled a club century today. It was a beautiful day to be on a bike in southern Indiana. The skies were clear, temps started in the mid 70's and climbed into the low 90's by the end of the ride. We did have to fight a slight headwind on and off throughout the day. I fell in with a of guys (I was a rose amongst many thorns ) and the pace was fast all day long. At about the 60 mile mark my average speed was 18 mph and I knew it probably would not stand but heck I was pretty darn proud at that point. The last 30 miles of the route consisted of a lot of climbs and so the average speed took a tumble. However, at the end I was still beaming for I posted my fastest century yet - 99.7 miles, 5 hours and 39 minutes on the bike and drum roll please........... an average speed of 17.66 mph.

I did something today that I haven't done in a loooong time. I went for a ride with DH. Just the two of us. On one of our old favorite routes - the Triathalon Loop (we name all our routes) up into Howard County. It was really nice to be out, just the two of us.
We did 42 miles @ 16.4, just shy of 2400' climbing. It was mostly cloudy, surprisingly humid, and warm (high 70s, low 80s). And today is the last day of summer, isn't it?

I rode 50.88 (how do you calculate climing ft?) at a leisurely 15mph. I forgot one very very important ingredient in my ride today... sunscreen! OMG! I am cooked. I wasn't wearing my gloves today either, so... gag.. When was the last time you krispy krittered your hands??!! Sheesh. I feel like a real nerdlette...forgetting my sunscreen. DUH!

Shoulders forearms and hands... ouch. Guess I'll be forced to wear sleeves and gloves tomorrow for sure!

I have a club century next Saturday and I'm not ready for it... They say its pretty flat (hope so!), but its so hilly around here, I kinda feel like they're saying "it's all downhill from here". (you know that old lie!)
