For our tri (HeatherErin and me), it was overcast, cool, and the bike portion was hilly! The swim was very choppy, our wave had a lot of people and with the impending rain, the water was rough.
There aren't times posted yet, unfortunately. The bike course was...how do I say this...painful. For a 12 mile bike course, I don't know how many hills you can cram in the first 8 miles but this course had everything to be imagined. The good part was the last 3 miles or so were all downhill. The run started on uphill AND it started through an area populated by well-wishers. How difficult is it to walk (or be doubled over in pain) when there are lots of people applauding?!!!
I'm glad I did it. I forgot my cycling glasses at T1 but learned life isn't always perfect. Oh and somebody knocked off my &*^% chain off my *(&^ bike when I was swimming. Ugh. I got it back on and life continued. RUDE though!!! The transition area leaved a lot to be desired and my transition person next to me appeared to feel my belongings could be strewn about at will if they inconvenienced him.
I wish the times were posted though. Not that I care but I am curious!
Oh and lastly, I learned it takes me about 1.5 miles after the bike ride to be fully comfortable in the run. For the first mile or so, OUCH!
Yeah Teigyr! That's TWO down! Well done!
As for the guy in the spot next to you... What a (_*_)! It sucks when no one shows any courtesy to their transition neighbours...
As for the OUCH on the run, did you do any bricks in training?? They're really useful.
Well done teigyr
When will they post the times? I'd be really curious too...
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
No times yet. Last week's tri had them posted by the time I got home. Not that it matters but, ya know, I guess I care.
I didn't do enough bricks but I also think I was sore from last week. The hilly bike course was challenging too and the bricks I DID do were "token ride (ie flat) to token run".
In retrospect, it wasn't a great race but it was fun in its own way. It didn't have much by way of atmosphere and for spectators, it was horrible. It was well-supported though and they had a LOT of people out on the course cheering us on. The worst part was we were in the last wave but had to leave transition well before the first wave started. It was so cold and we didn't know that there could be non-competitors in the area where we waited. Consequently, we only brought ourselves and our swimming stuff/wetsuits and no jackets because we didn't know we'd have the opportunity to leave them with someone. We waited for well over an hour. Last night I slept in sweats, huge fuzzy socks and a sweatshirt (over a t-shirt) and still couldn't get warm![]()
Congrats Teigyr! You worked hard and you just keep getting fitter.
It was rather astounding to hear YOU say you were happy for the downhills!!!
