Digression: I'm paranoid about things getting stuck in my wheels ever since doing a face plant over my front wheel at age 16 and breaking both front teeth (root canaled, bleached, and doing ok but yellowing with time).
So the one time I actually did have a bungee cord get loose and stuck in my rear wheel I was surprised how well the bike handled it. The cord was wrapped ROYALLY around the hub and took 20 minutes to macgyver out since the (whopping huge) hook had deformed and was trying to be an integral part of my wheel. One of the times I was a bit miffed that nobody stopped to help a damsel in distress, since the only "tool" I had available was my house key...
But despite all the noise and fury the wheel and spokes and all were true and unharmed.
