I forwarded this to my Mum and my godmother. They'll get a kick out of it!
That is funny. Add it to the list of another reason why not to have kids... though that pack of cards went for $142.51!![]()

A friend of hers won the auction for the cards. She didn't cash the check.

Think she's making a bid to get noticed by a publisher? Seems like a good way to get attention, word of mouth gets around so she gets lots of hits - probably many more people than would find her blog if left to their own devices. She stops anyone from making a big bid by having a friend put in something really outrageous and then just not collecting.
She is a really funny writer - I wish her luck if that's her plan.

Yeah, I thought about the "get noticed" aspect as a gut reaction, too. The part about her friend buying the cards is well explained in her blog, and has been discussed to death all over the place. Believe what you will, they claim it was coincidence and unplanned that the friend won the auction--the friend's first bid was the winning bid, so she didn't drive up the price. She gave the friend the cards but didn't cash the check.
I think she's a really talented writer, too.
