I use mtb pedals (Frogs), but I use Shimano spinning shoes. Someone asked me about them on the group ride the other day...they have laces and a velcro strap that holds the laces down. I LOVE them. All the other shoes I tried on were uncomfortable. These are not as lugged as mtb shoes, but are not slick on the bottom like road shoes. They look funny to other roadies, but they're fine by me.
