We all SPD sometimes!

Well, I've been riding for about 20 years and it has been quite a few years since I have spd'd, but sure enough I was going up a great big steep hill last night on my mountain bike, started to get off line, (you know the story), was going to hit a rock so I went to take my foot out before I fell over and low and behold it wouldn't come out! Boom, there I was sitting on my hip with my bike attached to me!

My only consolation was that it was muddy and my cleats were pretty full of it so it was hard to pull out!

I got a good giggle out of that graceful move, as did my girlfriend and my hubby!

LOL - I wish It only happened every few years for me. I seem to do that every time I ride. My riding partner has started giving me style points for these falls.

Ah, it happens on road bikes, too, particularly with Speedplays. I have had a couple of bad crashes when I have been lying in the road still clipped in.
I have never heard the term "sp deed." perhaps it is a western thing. We just say "couldn't unclip!"

Ahhh yes, I had this happen recently too. We had a group mountain bike ride and I was planning to show off my mad skills. I took the lead and 2 minutes into the ride I hit a sand pit, tried to put my foot down and instead I flipped over with the bike attached. And then as I tried to unclip, I watched everyone pass me and speed down the trail. It was a humbling moment.

My Speedplays are exceptionally easy to unclip from when riding. But they do not automatically release when you crash; as in going down on a hill that was a 20% grade which was a little wet, freaking out and locking the brakes. This was in full view of many tourists near a covered bridge in Vermont.
I never have trouble getting out of my spds on my mountain bike, because as soon as see anything remotely scary looking my foot is out and down! Did I say I su** at mountain biking???

Yea, I hear sp-deed all lot, 'spudded' too.

I had a particularly bad incident the other day; I took my new MTB out on an in-town errand because I was so excited to ride it. Decided to turn around in a too-tight space, realized it was too tight too late, wobbled and BAM, on the concrete in front of gazillions of passing cars. I can live with that indignity, but what really bothers me is that my legs look better than they ever have but I can't wear a skirt without people commenting on my bruises and bike tan. Sigh. I am such a klutz.

Nah...spd'd speaks for itself no matter where you are from. I knew right away what you were talking about!

It has caused a few butt bruises in this house I will tell you that much!
