    HALT! animal repellent

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I ordered some along with the HALT holder. How in the heck does this clip on your handlbar? The larger side clips and holds the can. The smaller side is really too small to clip on the handlebar. What am I missing?

Do you have standard drop bars? If so, it will fit, I promise (I have one). You do have to push kinda hard to get it on there, but once on, it stays. You wouldn't want it too loose!

Good luck -- and here's hoping you never have to use it. It makes me feel better just having it there, within easy reach.

I have a little vial of pepper spray without a holder. I use one of those short 3" loop bungy cords with a ball on one end. I loop it around my stem and tuck the spray in one strand of the elastic, holding the spray vertically snug against my stem. Very handy to grab and it stays out of the way.

Don't forget to bring the spray in with you if you go into a store, bathroom, etc. You do NOT want some kid fooling with it on your bike, spraying themselves, getting hurt, and possibly suing you as well. Do not leave it unattended on your bike in public places.

BE SURE THE SPRAY CAN REALLY WORKS! I bought some from Nashbar too, and recently my husband tried to use it and nothing came out! A new nasty dog moved into our neighborhood, and managed to get our heels in his mouth yesterday, kind of scary. So, today DH went out with a water bottle full of vinegar and cayenne to teach him to avoid chewing on cyclists feet while they are riding!

Oh yes!- be sure to TEST your spray in a safe place before you depend on it. Test it once a year at least. And I think it actually expires after a couple of years, so replace it once in a while.

ew! I sorta hate to test it.

Maybe if these two start getting out of hand and dangerous.

Sandra, by the looks of the pampered ones in the pic, you don't have to worry about them getting out of control. I do see the tv remote there though...they might squabble over who gets the remote for the westminster dog show

The only pepper spray those two are going to taste is the Tabasco in the Bloody Marys the butler brings them at cocktail hour along with their caviar and water crackers...

yeah, those two are bad ones, that's for sure.

Be careful with your Halt. Some highly adrenalized dogs will only become more aggressive when sprayed.

    Remember the two "S's"

    1. Spray
    2. Sprint

To train a dog, you must be more interesting than dirt.

Actually, it's Triple SSS, at least for me:

    1. Swear
    2. Spray
    3. Sprint

I've used Fox Labs OC before. It's about the hottest pepper spray you can buy. I used it once on a well known problem dog and the dog now runs AWAY from cyclists, lol.. I carry a can in my jersey pocket.

...And please don't overuse it. I realize that there are *some* truly mean dogs, but most nasty-looking, loud-barking, bike-chasing dogs can be charmed into submission. I've been chased down by lots dogs who seem aggressive but turn out to be playful. Lots of times they just run next to me until they get tired, or if I slow down they might lick my leg (I think they like the salty flavor of sweat -- yuck! ) or sniff my tires. And if it's a dog you come across regularly while biking, it might be worth the time and effort to try and make friends.

Also be careful that the stuff doesn't get on your skin, because those cans ted to leak and if the stuff gets on you it will burn your skin. Just imagine what it would do to a dog's eyes, mouth and nose.

    Be safe,

    C
