Hey, thanks. I also just realized there is a yearly HIM and Oly, too, down in Bend OR. That's close, and I always like to plan events where there is likely to be more heat and sunshine. I try not to schedule events in Western WA if I can help it. But, Lake Stevens is CLOSE!

Edited to add: I know it might sound fairly audacious to consider an Oly or HIM as a goal without ever having done a Tri (although I am talking 2 years out). But, for some reason, it is dreaming about the bigger distances that tend to get me excited enough to try stuff.

June 27-29 2008. It is part of a whole sports festival with a bunch of different races involved:

Oops, guess it is actually Sun River

Could you consider a sprint as a training event only, on your way to the more intruiging distance?

I know a sprint is not the distance for me, that I will probably end up happiest at an Oly or HIM (may seek to do HIM in 2008) distance, but doing a few sprints first will shake out the nerves, bugs, etc. Plus give me some confidence that these things are doable....

anyway that is my plan. I am now signed up for a sprint; since it's end of season here it will be what I reflect upon during the colder months and will help goal set for '08, as necessary. Maybe you could set an intermediate training step of a sprint in' 2008.

    But if not, dream away!

Absolutely!! And, who knows if I will ever be able to run at all?

It is frustrating to look at the training plans for the Oly and HIM distances, knowing that I could start either one of those training plans easily with my biking and swimming. It will all hinge on whether or not I can ever run again, and if so, how long it would take to safely and sanely build up to that level of training.

But, I guess that is why triathletes are truly special athletes. If everyone could do all three sports, and do them well, then it wouldn't be such a big deal!!

Good luck with your sprint! Keep us posted!

Starfish, I did the Pacific Crest HIM this year and it was an exceptionally well run race. The festival is really fun and the course is very beautiful. I'll likely do it again next year. Keep me posted on what you decide to do.

And remember, if you can get the swim and the bike done in a decent time, you can walk the whole half mary. There's no shame in it.

Hey, thanks for this report. I will definitely keep you posted. I can't imagine being ready for a HIM next summer (especially with the other bike goals I have), but I think they have other distances, too.
