It can be used to store a bike as well as work on it.
Whether or not you need something... that's for you to decide.You can store bike leaning it against a wall. It is convenient to be able to put the bike on the stand and do maintenance. We have two mountain bikes, three road bikes, a commute bike and a tandem. We have another rack that actually stores 4 of the bikes. We have stands for two of the bikes and one road bike is in the trainer. We needed a storage solution.
